Liga MX won’t return until at least July
Santos Laguna head coach confirmed that he was told by his bosses that the Liga MX won’t return until the month of July due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Liga MX decided to postpone the current Clausura 2020 after the end of week 10 that ended with Cruz Azul defeating Club America 1-0 on Sunday, 15 March. Due to the coronavirus outbreak in Mexico the tournament was postponed until further notice and the whole country is in quarantine period until further notice.
It was not certain when the teams would return back to training and when the rest of the tournament was going to restart again. During an interview with the show ‘Derechos Exclusivos’ from Uruguay, Santos Laguna’s head coach Guillermo Almada said that he was informed when they can start practicing and when the tournament is going to restart.
“We have been informed that we can’t train in May or June so we still have a long way to go with this outbreak in Mexico. I think we will resume the Clausura 2020 in July if everything goes as planned with the coronavirus pandemic,” said Almada.

The 18 clubs have been working on a unified plan
According to Santo’s head coach the intention of all the Liga MX bosses is that the 18 teams return to practice at the same time between June and July but it is getting complicated to design a plan because each state is impacted differently by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have been told that late June or early in July we can resume the tournament and we could design a plan for each player to practice in a safe distance from each other after they go through medical checkups. What is getting complicated is that one state has 60 confirmed cases and others have one million. The outbreak hit us a little later than other countries that is why we are still in quarantine period.”
Almada said that he was told that if everything goes as planned they could play week 11 of the Clausura 2020 on 3 June and each week they will play two games so they can end the tournament early.
