Augsburg coach Heiko Herrlich has fallen foul of the Bundesliga's strict coronavirus protocols ahead of the return of the German league this weekend and will not be able to take charge of his side when they host Wolfsburg because he went out to buy toothpaste

The seemingly insignificant slip means that Herrlich, who arrived at Augsburg in place of Martin Schmidt on 10 March, just before football shut down across the continent, will not be able to be on the sidelines of the Augsburg Arena this Saturday.

Herrlich: "I made a mistake by leaving the hotel"

"I made a mistake by leaving the hotel, despite taking all the recommended precautionary measures," Herrlich said during a virtual press conference. "I should not have done so. It was not a good example to show to others and for that reason I will not be on the bench against Wolfsburg."

Augsburg are currently 14th in the Bundesliga table and a victory, coupled with defeat for Dusseldorf, would lift Herrlich's sided eight points clear of the drop zone.
