Marcelo pays tribute to Black Lives Matter with goal celebration

One of the most poignant images to arise from Real Madrid's comfortable 3-1 win over relegation threatened Eibar followed Brazilian Marcelo bagging the third goal for his side in the 37th minute of the game.

The Brazilian took to his knee and raised his right fist in the air, an image that has been seen the world over following the killing of Geroge Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer on 25 May with his death provoking a wave of rage at police brutality in the United States that have lead to a series of global protests.

Marcelo was the target for racist chants at a Copa del Rey tie at the Bernabeu in February 2014 as the player kicked a ball about on the pitch post match as the right wing Atletico Madrid ultras Frente Atletico delivered a barrage of racist taunts at the defender.
