Manchester City vs Arsenal: Premier League preview

Both sides will feel that the first three-quarters of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign did not go to plan and will be looking to hit the ground running to start the remaining ten matches. Manchester City are on the brink of relinquishing their title and are currently 25 points adrift of Liverpool, but harbour serious ambitions in the Champions League. For Arsenal, it has been a season of upheaval but will want to kick on under new boss Mikel Arteta.

Arteta was part of the City coaching staff when these two met at the Emirates Stadium back in December and has the chance to make a statement against his former employers. The Gunners still have a chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League and victory over City this evening would leave them just two points off Manchester United.

Premier League returns behind closed doors

English football takes its first major step back to normality with the resumption of the Premier League, but there will a number of changes. With no fans in the stadium viewers at home will be able to listen to computer-generated ‘crowd noise’ and clubs are allowed to use in-stadium music to mark goals and substitutions.

To help players deal with playing games in quick succession after a lengthy break, teams will be able to make five substitutes. This should see more young players given a chance with Phil Foden, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock likely to feature from the bench.
