After Saturday’s draw at Celta Vigo saw Barcelona end the weekend two points behind LaLiga leaders Real Madrid, Quique Setién’s men now host Atlético Madrid on Tuesday in a big-name match-up that they are under pressure to win.
Barça head into the clash with recent LaLiga history very much on their side, though, having been victorious in seven of the sides' last 10 fixtures in Primera División.
Such has been the defending champions' league domination over Atlético, indeed, that they are yet to lose a top-flight game to the club since Diego Simeone was appointed as Los Rojiblancos' boss in December 2011.
However, it was Atlético who came out on top in the teams' most recent meeting in all competitions, ousting Barça from the Spanish Super Cup with a 3-2 semi-final triumph in January - a result that led to Ernesto Valverde's sacking as Blaugrana coach.
What's more, Barça will be up against a team that's been in fine fettle since LaLiga resumed. Having languished in sixth when play was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, Atleti have returned with four wins and a draw to surge up to third.
With six points separating them and fifth-placed Getafe, Simeone's side now look set fair for a top-four finish and, for the eighth season in a row, Champions League qualification.
