There will undoubtedly be a few people at Juventus banging their heads against the wall when they realize the kind of figure they are about to bring to Turin.

It seems that gaffe-prone Arthur Melo is only more than happy to supply fodder for stories of his rebellious, undisciplined and unpredictable nature.

In December he found himself in hot water with then Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde for taking a snowboarding trip to Andorra while he was injured. In February, he created more controversy by flying to Paris to attend Neymar’s birthday party, just two days before Barcelona’s Copa Clásico against Real Madrid. Then came his decisions to skip a coronavirus PCR test and declare himself in absentia from Barça at the end of July in a bid to force his departure, drawing even more unneeded controversy upon himself.

And if all that wasn’t enough, the Brazilian outcast has now been caught drink driving, according to reports from Catalan media, with Diari de Girona reporting that the 24-year-old tested positive for alcohol after crashing his Ferrari early on Monday morning.

Arthur faces driving ban ahead of mooted Juventus move

According to the report, after being breathalysed by Catalan police, Arthur was found to have 0.55mg of alcohol per litre of exhaled air, which is enough to warrant a criminal penalty as the limit is 0.50 mg per litre.

The accident reportedly occurred at four in the morning in the centre of the town of Palafrugell, in Girona province, when the player’s vehicle mounted the footpath and collided with a lamp post.

Aside from a fine, Arthur faces his license being revoked for between six months and one year, meaning his trips to the Juventus training ground in Turin will have to be made by taxi.
