Benzema targets Vinicius to explain the situation
The experienced Frenchman and his younger Brazilian teammate both trained as normal on Thursday, before having a moment away from the group to talk.
On Thursday at Valdebebas training ground, there was added interest for visiting journalists, keen to see the interactions between Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. The two players had been in the headlines over the previous 24 hours after reports of complaints coming from the Frenchman about his younger teammate during the Champions League fixture.
Benzema finds Vini for a chat
French TV programme Téléfoot had broadcasted a video in which Benzema allegedly complained to fellow Frenchman Mendy about Vinícius, although the Brazilian is never actually mentioned by name.
Real Madrid news:
“He does what he wants,” Benzema apparently said to Mendy. “Don’t play with him, brother. He plays against us.” After that the two compatriots could then be seen in conversation with Vinícius as Madrid returned to the Borussia-Park for the second half.
On Wednesday the players had a day’s rest but the squad were back to business on Thursday as they prepared for the LaLiga Santander game against Huesca. Benzema had already popped onto Instagram to post a line that was believed to be referring to the Téléfoot remarks: "And while the dogs bark, the number nine ignores it".
So to training, and all appeared very calm. The session began at 11:00 and Benzema and Vinicius were involved together as usual, with the Frenchman even seeking out the 20-year old to provide an explanation of what had happened in Germany, the matter being put to bed after a short talk. Teacher and student, the roles that they have been playing both on and off the field thus far, appear set to continue for some time yet.
Saturday's match against Huesca at the Di Stéfano will be brought to you live on AS English. Kick-off is at 14:00 CET.
