PS5: where to buy new console in the US - online, stores
The wait is almost over as excited gamers will soon get their hands on the latest console offering from Sony. But in the middle of a pandemic, how will this happen?
If you’re a gamer who is desperate to be one of the first to get your hands on the latest PS5 console from Sony then keep reading. You’ll need to know how, where and when you can buy this new and improved powerful piece of tech…and, of course, what games are available to get into straight away.
PS5: when and where can I buy it?
As you may have noticed (!), most aspects of 2020 have been disrupted by a coronavirus pandemic. Despite positive news about progress being made on vaccines, there's a while to go before life returns to normality and Sony are still looking to protect people as much as possible. They have, therefore, confirmed that all launch sales of the PS5 will be online only. Those of you in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico, and South Korea will see the console launch on 12 November, while the rest of the world will have to wait until 19 November.
The message from Sony read as follows:
“In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst covid-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.
No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.”
Some of you may be the lucky ones to have sorted out a pre-order of the console - in which case this article is unlikely to be of much help to you - but for the rest out there, check out any of these outlets to get in the line.
Sony, Amazon, Target, GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy
The back of midnight is expected to be the moment their online stores begin to offer the PS5 so get set to compete with many others getting blisters from the refresh button. Alternatively, get a good night's sleep and find a gap in your schedule to do the ordering then. Warning: you may have to listen to others go on about how awesome it is for a while though!
PS5: what games are available at launch?
There is a small section of exclusive games to get you going from launch. These are Astro's Playroom (which is pre-installed), Demon's Souls, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

Also note that the new PS5 is backwards compatible with over 4,000 PS4 titles, offering an upgrade in visuals for many of your favourite games.
