Referee group refuse to officiate another MLS game this season
The MLS referee group that officiated the playoff game between Orlando City and New York City FC defended their decision to not take charge of another game this season.
Allen Chapman was the referee for the MLS Playoff game between Orlando City and New York City FC. The game ended 1-1 after extra-time and the two teams decided the game from a penalty shootout. Orlando City’s goalkeeper Pedro Gallese was given a second yellow card after the VAR told Chapman that he left his line early.
Gallese was shocked when he received the red card, a controversial decision taken by the referee group, and midfielder Rodrigo Schlegel was chosen to replace Gallese, who ended up stopping the penalty that gave Orlando the victory 6-5 to advance to the second round of playoffs.
MLS decided to banned them
Even though the Professional Referees Organisation defended the decision taken by Allen Chapman and the rest of the group in that game, Major League Soccer announced on Monday that they will not work another playoff game this season. The game was delayed by 22 minutes because backup goalkeeper Brian Rowe was not allowed to come on for Orlando, due to the confusion caused by the decision.
