Maradona's inheritance: the fortune includes houses and cars
The inheritance of the Argentine football legend is estimated to be around $50 million and includes real estate, luxury cars, investments and the rights to his likeness.
Diego Armando Maradona died on November 25 at the age of 60, after suffering a heart attack in his home country, Argentina. According to a source close to the family, the 1986 World Cup star "did not leave a will," and a complex probate trial is expected.
The fight for the inheritance Maradona leaves after his death promises to be fierce. It is estimated that his fortune is worth around 50 million dollars, although it is not known exactly how much of that he spent in recent years.
Houses, cars and jewellery
Among the list of his main assets are five houses, four in Argentina and one in Dubai, four cars and jewellery. In recent years, Maradona received all kinds of gifts, many outside of his contracts. For example, when he worked as technical director for Fujairah FC in Dubai, he was presented with two luxury cars. When acting as honorary president of Dynamo Brest in Belarus, he received a Hunta Overcomer amphibious 'tank', a vehicle that can "float on water".
All of Maradona's assets will remain in the hands of his heirs, who are officially his five children. The issue is that there are also other people who claim to be his and who would be beneficiaries if confirmed. In addition, Maradona's immediate family have experienced internal wars and are not very close, therefore negotiations regarding dividing the inheritance are expected to be tough.
Maradona decided to leave his family nothing
In 2019, a message recorded by the Argentine legend was broadcast, where he threatened to leave his family without inheritance.
"I know that now, as you get older, they care more about what you leave than what you are doing. And I tell everyone that I am not going to leave anything for them, that I am going to donate it. Everything that I had in my life I am going to donate," he said.
Lawsuits over Maradona's assets began long before his death. In 2015, he began a legal process against his ex-wife, Claudia Villafañe, for alleged fraud, including the alleged loss of 458 objects relating to his career, including t-shirts, jewellery, trophies and other assets.
