Best goalie training exercise... for ball skills and keeping fit
This exercise for goalkeepers hones their reflexes and ensures they're in tip top physical conditions. It's also ridiculously fun to play... or watch.
Goalkeepers don't need to be fit, right? Wrong! In the modern game the goalie needs to be extremely versatile, and even if they're only called upon to sprint once in a match, a burst of sheer speed from the number one to nick the ball off the feet of an onrushing striker can be the difference between 1-0 and 1-1.
Perfect goalie training exercise
And what better way to combine sprint training, reflex conditioning and kicking skills for two keepers at the same time than this exercise. One small goal (it can be marked by cones) and something about 5 metres away from it to run round, and a stack of balls for each stopper to fire at their opposing goalie.
Just make sure you've got a LOT of water on hand - this is a drill that leaves people seriously dehydrated.
