Sevilla 0-1 Real Madrid: results, summary and goals

Zidane's side looked solid against Sevilla and took all three points thanks to a Bono own goal, provoked by a touch from Vinicius to a crossed ball.

Sevilla vs Real Madrid: live

Real Madrid can now go into next week's key Champions League clash with an added boost in morale after an away win over Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

The game never really game to life as a spectacle with plenty of tired legs on display for both teams and the deciding goal had a great deal of fortune as Bono mistimed a delivery into the box which was deflected by Ocampos, then Vinicius and then steered into the Sevilla net by the keeper himself.

The home side dominated in terms of possession and only created two real moments of danger through an acrobatic De Jong effort and substitute Suso who almost found the top corner with a sweet left footed effort.

Madrid were impressive defensively and Zidane will take plenty of positives from the game into next week's clash against a Borussia side who drew 2-2 away to Freiburg.

Post match:

Sevilla forward Lucas Ocampos: 'They had one chance and took it'

Test three is the small matter of the Madrid derby against high flying Atletico next weekend at the Alfredo di Stefano with Diego Simeone's men unbeaten in the domestic campaign to date.

So ZZ come through the first of three tricky tests with the win in Seville. Test 2 is without doubt the biggest test for the Spanish club with an adverse result at home to Borussia MG could even see Zidane's men finishing fourth and this would be the first time since the inception of the Champions League in its current form that the Bernabeu side would have missed out from the group stage.

Vini

Vinicius reels away after being involved in the only goal of the game at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

table

This is how the LaLiga table looks after the 0-1 Real Madrid win in Seville.

What the result and overall performance does is ever so slightly reinforce Zidane's position and with nothing better to remove the pressure than three points.

All over in Seville. A Bono og enough to decide the game at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

92

Last throw of the dice for Sevilla but it's been a disappointing display from the home side, despite dominating in terms of possession, Lopetegui's side lacked the craft to carve open the Real Madrid defence.

Next up:

Sevilla travel to Getafe and Real Madrid face Atleti in Valdebebas.

90

Just 3 minutes to be added here in Seville.

Vinicius carded as he clips Navas

88

Less than 2 minutes of normal time and it appears that the points will be heading back to the capital.

LaLiga has awarded the Real Madrid goal as a Bono og rather than attribute it to Vinicius.

85

Vinicius fouls on the right flank and Sevilla opt for the short ball as the ball goes out for another corner. The home side pressing now but the Real Madrid defence has been level to everything thrown at them. Ocamos attempts another bicycle kick but again easy for Courtois.

83

Suso wins a corner for his side but impressive from Vinicius as he chases every ball with more than 80 minutes on the clock. A discreet evening from Benzema for Madrid and Ocampos for Sevilla.

82

Into the final ten minutes and Sevilla still dominate possession as they probe and look for a way through the solid Real Madrid defensive line.

Diego Carlos makes way for Idrissi.

Sevilla poised to make yet another change with Idrissi set to feature. Suso with a fierce left footed effort which just misses the top corner.

77

The clock ticks down in Seville and just over 12 minutes for the home side to find an equalkiser.

Gudelj carded for a stamp on Kroos.

76

Casemiro fouls on the edge of the box and is lucky to avoid a card. Danger for Madrid as Suso takes charge of the ball. Gudelj finally takes the ball. Right footed and the ball drifts inches wide.

73

De Jong's acrobatic effort really the only spark of danger from Sevilla all evening. Lopetegui's side dominating proceedings in the centre of the park but unable to penetrate the Real Madrid defensive line.

71

Less than 20' remain at the Sanchez Pizjuan and it's stil Zidane's side who hold the advatage.

69

Tiredness playing a role in the tempo of the game with both sides having played in Europe midweek and face more Champions League action next week.

Vinicius fouls En Nesyri and is lucky not be carded.

Change for Madrid as Asensio replaces Rodrygo

66

The ball breaks to Susu but the striker blazes over with his first touch

off go Rakitic, Jordan and De Jong

Sevilla poised to make three changes: on Suso, En Nesyri and Gudelj

63

No way through for Sevilla with Real Madrid defending in a resolute manner. Zidane's men sitting deeper and happy to hit Sevilla on the break.

A body blow for the home side with the goal coming just when Sevilla were very much in control. Modric carded for a pull.

Doubts about the author of the goal...a strike for Vinicius or an og from Bono ? Anyhow, it's SFC 0-1 Real Madrid

The Brazilian was alert in beating Bono to steer the ball home.

Vinicius bags his third of the season and first of the game

Goooooooool.  Real Madrid take the lead

ZZ

Zizou encourages his men from the touch line at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

52

Madrid being pressed back now as De Jong produces a spectacular over-head effort which is straight at Courtois. Great skills from the Dutch striker and his shot just failed direction as it was easy for the Belgian stopper to deal with.

Real Madrid are looking solid defensively as Sevilla have to track back when faced with a sea of black shirts.

Ocampos' body language doesn't look that of a player on top of his game. The Argentine striker was arguably the player of the season at the Sanchez Pizjuan last season but has yet to reproduce his best this season.

Off we go again at the Sanchez Pizjuan

Freiburg and Borussia MG about to end with the current score 2-2

The teams make their way back to the pitch as Munir is replaced by Torres

sev

Real Madrid's Karim Benzema in action with Sevilla's Diego Carlos during the action at the Sanchez Pizjuan

A game that has bubbled but yet to boil. Both teams enjoying spells of dominance with the visitors creating the better chances. All, very much to play for in the second half.

The player holds his hamstring and will be checked by the Sevilla medics as the whistle goes for the interval.

Munir goes to the ground and appears to have pulled a muscle.

45

We'll have one minute of time added on.

First card of the day as Kroos clips Ocampos as the Argentine skips by the German. His third of his yellow card cycle.

Into the final furlong of the game. Benzema with the best chance of the afternoon, only to be deprived by a fine stop from Bono.

Sevilla corner and easy for Courtois to clasp. A placid afternoon so far for the Belgian stopper.

41

Casemiro goes in with high feet and gets a warning. The Brazilian is just one card away from being ruled out of the Madrid derby next weekend.

38

Great save from Bono as he gets a hand to a fine Benzema strike that was destined to nestle in the corner of the Sevilla net.

35

A quiet display so far today from Lucas Ocampos who was rested mid-week by Lopetegui.

Real Madrid won both meetings last season with a 0-1 at the Sanchez Pizjuan and a 2-1 in the Bernabeu. No draw between these sides since 2005.

Zidane applauds from the technical area. It's been a solid display from his side so far this afternoon without being dazzling.

Heading towards the 30' mark and it remains goalless at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Julen Lopetegui, of Sevilla shakes hands with Zinedine Zidane, prior to the La Liga Santader match between Sevilla FC and Real Madrid at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan

Despite the midweek reverse at the hands of Chelsea, Sevilla are mathematically through to next stage of the Champions League and will be in the 14 December draw. Madrid need a draw or win over Borussia MG on Wednesday. Madrid could win their group, or depending on results end up in fourth place and exit European competition which would be a disaster for the 13 time European Cup winners.

Munir collides with Vazquez and the ref. calls for a free for the visitors.

21

Kroos goes close as he looks for the top corner of the Sevilla net but his effort drifts wide. Madrid edging the game in terms of chances despite Sevilla bossing things in terms of possession.

Surprisingly, Sevilla ahed in terms of possession...

José Sánchez Martínez, by the way is our man in the middle today.

Navas gets a warning from the match official after he clips Vinicius.

16

Great spell of possession as Rodrygo and Vinicius look sharp for the visitors. The move breaks down as Madrid win a free kick. Bono mis-judges the cross and Casemiro finds the ball at his feet but fails to get a shot off.

Monchengladbach are also in action today and face Freiburg away with a 1-1 scoreline at the interval

Sergio Ramos is the obvious absentee today for Real Madrid and the defender has set his sights on a midweek return in the key Champions League clash against Borussia MG.

11

Teasing ball from Jordan who delivers an excellent cross but De Jong just fails to latch onto the ball.

10

Sevilla once again slip up at the back and almost afford Benzema the chance to break. Poor from Vidal who is in for Acuña.

8

Great work by Sevilla as Ocampos finds Navas and his cross is just a tad too high for De Jong .... Just a glimpse of what this Sevilla side are capable of.

7

Real Madrid looking like the side who have eased into the game in a higher gear with Courtois yet to get involved in the game.

5

Casemiro has a long range effort with a right footed strike which drifts wide as Benzema almos capataises on a Bono error.

4

Vinicius looking lively already here on the left flank of the Sanchez Pizjuan

Vinicius goes close for Madrid as the visitors look to strike early

Off we go in Seville

More than a game today for Zidane's side today but a chance to show their mettle as Wednesday's Champions League game vs Borussia MG looms.

The teams take to the field.... Sevilla set to play in their iconic all white kit with black socks, Madrid today in their all black fourth kit.

No rain forecast during the action but it's a nippy day in the Andalusian capital. Sunny but fresh with a temperature of 13C/ 55F

The Sanchez Pizjuan looking majestic today bathed in the Sevilla winter sunshine. A shame, once again that this game will take place behind closed doors but understandable at the same time given the ongoing situation with the pandemic.

The midweek reverse at the hands of a Olivier Giroud inspired Chelsea is the only blot on the Sevilla copybook with Lopetegui's men recording five wins from five in the previous matches.

Two wins vs. Inter in the Champions League are the only bright spots in a LaLiga run that has only seen Zidane's men pick up one point from a possible 9 in the domestic competition over the past three games.

Real Madrid and Sevilla FC women's team faced each other this morning with a 5-2 win for the side from the Spanish capital.

For SFC, Bono is back in goal after his recent coronavirus as former Barcelona player Aleix Vidal makes his first start of season

Casemiro starts and relegates Odegaard to the bench. Lucas Vazquez starts at right back moving Nacho to a central role with a start for Brazilian winger Vinicius.
