Monterrey appoint Javier Aguirre as head coach

Monterrey have confirmed the exit of Antonio Mohamed and have appointed Javier Aguirre as their new head coach for the 2021 Clausura tournament. The Mexican returns to the Liga MX after a 19 years, following a period in which he has managed clubs in Europe and Asia, as well as national teams.

The last team he managed in Mexico was Pachuca, who he left in summer 2001 after losing the final of the Verano tournament to Santos Laguna. Now he will have his chance for revenge in the Liga MX with one of the most expensive teams in the country, Monterrey.

Aguirre will arrive in the city this week ahead of his official presentation. “Hi my friends I am Javier Aguirre, I am Rayado and let’s go Monterrey,” he said on the team's Twitter account.

According to AS México, Aguirre has signed a two year contract with Monterrey worth 3.8 million dollars per season. Aguirre is one of Mexico’s most known and successful coaches and he even managed the national team at two World Cups.
