The United States defeated El Salvador 6-0 at the Inter Miami stadium on Wednesday night in the last friendly of the year, before the beginning of the World Cup Qualifiers in Concacaf next year. For this game the head coach Gregg Berhalter only called players from MLS clubs that are not participating in the final that is set to be played on 12 December.

El Salvador was crushed in the first half

Since the game began the USMNT went full-offense and in the 17th minute Paul Arriola scored the first goal of the game. This was his fourth since Berhalter took charge of the national team. Three minutes later Chris Mueller, who was making his debut with the USMNT, scored the second of the night.

Then at the 23rd minute, Sebastian Lletget made a great run and as he was entering the box, the LA Galaxy player chipped the ball for the third one of the night. Two minutes later, Julian Araujo made a perfect cross and Mueller dove to header the ball and there was nothing the goalkeeper from El Salvador, Henry Hernandez, was able to do.

Then in the 27th minute and after a counter attack from the USMNT, Chris Mueller assisted Ayo Akinola, who only tapped the ball to score in his debut with the national team. In the first 45 minutes El Salvador didn’t have a shot on goal and the coach, Carlos de los Cobos, made two defensive substitutions to try to stop the United States offense.

The second half started with the United States going full offense. In the 50th minute Brenden Aaronson would seal the score 6-0. This was his first goal with the national team and the United States closed very strong the year. Gregg Berhalter is aware that the MLS players and the ones in Europe are capable of making history with the United States in the next 2022 World Cup, but the first mission is to Qualify, something they failed to do in 2018.
