Cobi Jones becomes a US Soccer vice president candidate

Cobi Jones used his social media to announce that he will be running for US Soccer vice president. The 2021 US Soccer presidential and vice president elections are taking place on 27 February at the US Soccer’s Annual General Meeting in Chicago. The deadline for other candidates who are interested in running is 29 December.

“Like many of us, I have experienced racial inequality and seen the gender inequality that plagues our society and game. I’m ready to contribute, to make a difference, and ensure that U.S. Soccer reflects the diversity of our families, friends and teammates. As the vice president, I want to ensure more opportunities are available to the next generation. In 2020, U.S. Soccer made history with the appointment of president Cindy Parlow Cone; it is time to make history again," Jones posted to Twitter on Monday.

Representation and access will inform all that I do. Increasing representation and access at every level of U.S. Soccer will grow our game in all its forms and allow the diversity of thought necessary to make U.S. Soccer better for us all,” read the statement on Twitter.

Coby Jones is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, making 164 international appearances for the United States men’s national team (1994-200) and he played in three World Cups and scored 15 goals.
