Pharmacies across the United States are ready, willing and able to start administering the Covid-19 vaccine.

But due to current short supplies, the Federal Retail Pharmacy Partnership Program has decided to designate just two pharmacy chains per state to offer the Covid-19 vaccine free of charge. One of those chosen is Publix, which is distributing Covid-19 vaccines at over 200 stores in Florida and Georgia.

Publix initially started the vaccination program in 22 of its stores in Florida on Thursday, January 7, but has since extended it to 105 stores across 12 Florida counties, which will each vaccinate around 120 people per day.

The 12 counties administering the vaccine through Publix are Bay, Citrus, Collier, Escambia, Flagler, Hernando, Marion, Okaloosa, St. Johns, Santa Rosa, Volusia and Walton counties.

In line with Florida health authority guidelines, the vaccine is available to three priority groups: health care workers, long-term care facility staff and residents and people 65 or older. Those eligible can make an appointment and see store locations at publix.com/covidvaccine

Publix extends program to Georgia

Following the successful rollout of the program in Florida, Publix announced on Thursday that it would begin offering the vaccine at 108 pharmacies across the state of Georgia.

Vaccinations are provided by appointment only and are for first responders, health care workers, individuals aged 65 and older and their caregivers, and residents and staff of long-term care facilities.

Eligible individuals can make appointments beginning Friday, January 15, using the online reservation system at publix.com/covidvaccine, with vaccinations starting Saturday, January, 16.

Publix, the largest employee-owned company in the U.S. with more than 225,000 associates, currently operates 1,264 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

At time of writing, there had been no announcement by Publix regarding plans to start the vaccination program at any of its stores in Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina or Virginia.
