Financial problems could force Dortmund to sell star players

German outlet 'BIld' report that the economic situation at the Bundesliga club could prompt a 'fire-sale' of key talents with a Haaland sale currently ruled out.

Update:
Financial problems could force Dortmund to sell star players

Borussia Dortmund's financial situation is precarious and failure to qualify for the Champions League next season would spell economic disaster for the club. According to German outlet 'Bild', the likes of Jadon Sancho, Gio Reyna and Raphael Guerreiro could all be offered for sale, should suitable and realistic bids be submitted.

Die Borussen have enjoyed an erratic season with hopes now deposited in new manager Edin Terzic who replaced Lucien Favre, but recent poor results have seen BVB slip to seventh in the Bundesliga table and the priority now for the club is to secure a place in the 2021/22 Champions League and avail of the financial benefits from UEFA.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is anxious to ensure the club avoids getting into massive debt and is prepared to listen to serious offers for some of the leading players in the first team squad with Erling Haaland, for the moment being exempt from this listing.

Youth and talent

Jadon Sancho remains one of the most attractive propositions at Dortmund and was widely linked with a move to Manchester United last summer but the Old Trafford side were unwilling to come forward with the 120 million euro requested by the German side. Bild maintain that Dortmund would be now willing to let the England international move to Manchester and it remains to be seen if the 20-year-old remains part of United's future plans.

18-year-old Giovanni Reyna (son of former US international Claudio) is another player on the radar of many European sides. The teenager is currently Dortmund's most used central player having participated in 1,671 minutes of first team action this season bagging four goals. Reyna currently holds a market value of 30 million euro according to specialist portal Transfermarkt.
