Manchester United will take on Real Sociedad on Thursday in a Europa League last-32 first-leg match that will take place in Turin and not in San Sebastián due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

The English squad, one of the favourites to lift the trophy, will try to advance to the next round after being knocked out of the Champions League, but it won’t be easy, as Real Sociedad are a dangerous team, as they have shown this season in LaLiga.

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were not able to advance to the Champions League round of 16, the Spanish outfit went through to the next round of the Europa League by finishing second in a group that was topped by Napoli.

Real Sociedad enjoying good season

Imanol Alguacil’s men started the season in an impressive way and together with Atlético Madrid was one of the teams to beat in the domestic competition. Later on though, they lost their winning flow and dropped some positions.

While their hopes of a LaLiga title seem to have vanished, they have avoided defeat in recent games, with two wins and two draws, and are sitting fifth in the standings with 38 points, seven behind Sevilla, who have one match in hand.

'The Red Devils' are enjoying a better situation in the Premier League, as they are in second position, tied with Leicester with 46 points, while leaders Manchester City have 53 points with a game in hand.

Sangalli and Moyà out

On Thursday, the hosts will be able to call upon Mikel Oyarzábal, who played last weekend against Getafe, so he will feature from the start.

Luca Sangalli and Miguel Ángel Moyá remain injured, while Robin Le Normand could come back into the heart of defence.

Former Manchester United midfielder Adnan Januzaj could play for the first time this season in the Europa League in a match that could certainly prove motivating for him, but he will have to take Portu’s spot for that, which remains unclear.

Pogba injured, no changes in attack

As for United, Paul Pogba has suffered a hamstring injury and has now been ruled out for the rest of the month.

There could be some changes in the starting XI, with Mason Greenwood, who extended his contract with the club until 2025, possibly taking Anthony Martial’s spot.

Dean Henderson could also feature from the start, along with Alex Telles. Up front, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani seem untouchable.
