Liverpool play host to city rivals Everton at Anfield on Sunday with Jürgen Klopp's team hoping to restore some sort of stability to their league campaign.

This will be the 236th installment of the Merseyside Derby - both have enjoyed spells at the top of the standings but the situation has changed for both teams since they last met at Goodison in October. Liverpool have slipped down to sixth in the table while Carlos Ancelotti's side are one place and three points behind them in seventh.

Teams news

Liverpool's season has been blighted by constant injuries and while Klopp strengthened his depleted back four by signing two centre-backs, Ben Davies and Ozan Kavak during last month's transfer window, both are still finding their feet and will require time to settle into the German coach's system. The Reds' casualty list makes bleak reading - they are still without Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner and Diogo Jota. Goalkeeper Alisson has been under the weather but should be given the all-clear to start.

Ancelotti has been working wonders over the other side of Stanley Park. His side have taken a fair few scalps already this season with wins over Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and held Liverpool, Leicester and Manchester United. Ex-madridista James Rodriguez became an instant hit with the fans, mostly for his knack of finding his team mates with wonderful, pinpoint assists but he is also the team's second top scorer on five goals behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is on 13.

Calvert-Lewin is set to return after missing the last two games, against Fulham and Manchester City but Ancelotti confirmed that Jean-Philippe Gbamin, and Yerry Mina remain out while Allan who spent almost a couple of months out with a hamstring injury is available again although his last out was in the 0-2 win away to Leicester before Christmas.

Everton haven’t had the best of luck in recent years in their travels to Anfield - their last league win there was back in the heady days of November 1995 when an Andrei Kanchelskis brace made it a night to celebrate for the blue half of Merseyside.
