Real Madrid vs Atalanta: how and where to watch - times, TV, online
All the information you need to know on how and where to watch Real Madrid host Atalanta at Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano (Madrid) on 16 March at 21:00 CET.
Real Madrid will be looking to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League when they face Atalanta BC in the second leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday.
Zinedine Zidane’s men go into the match with an important advantage after defeating the Italian side 0-1 in their first encounter in February. Ferland Mendy was the scorer that night.
Ajax and City are still fresh in Madrid's memory
‘Los Blancos’ will try to go through this time and avoid any surprises, since they were knocked out by Ajax and Manchester City in this round in the last two seasons. The stats say the home side have won 11 of their last 12 fixtures against Italian opposition, including two victories over Inter Milan in the group stage this campaign.
Real Madrid are also focused on LaLiga, where they sit third with 57 points, two less than arch rivals Barcelona and six less than leaders Atlético Madrid.
Although the Spanish giants are not considered to be one of the favourites this season they proved the Champions League still seems to be ‘their’ competition in the first leg.
Atalanta can upset the favorites
Atalanta fell up short then, but they will try to come back in Madrid and advance to the next round. They are fourth in the Serie A standings, with 52 points, three behind Juventus (with one match in hand), and 13 behind leaders Inter.
The Italian side have won three of their last four matches (their only loss was against Inter), with 10 goals scored in those last games.
Last season, Atalanta reached the Champions League quarter-finals in their first ever appearance in the competition, losing 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain.
Ramos will play, Hazard out
Zidane won’t be able to call upon the injured Dani Carvajal, Álvaro Odriozola, Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz for the game.
Casemiro is suspended so Luka Modric and Toni Kroos could partner with Federico Valverde in midfield.
However, captain Sergio Ramos made his return against Elche last weekend and will feature once again.
Zapata is back, Hateboer and Freuler won't play
As for Atalanta, Hans Hateboer, with a fractured foot, won’t play and Freuler is suspended after seeing a red card in the first leg.
Duván Zapata started on the bench against Spezia but he will play this time, while Cristian Romero will feature from the start. Zapata will be joined in the final third of the field by the team's leading scorer this season, Luis Muriel.
