USA vs Jamaica: live updates

93

Peep, peep, peep! Game over as the USA run in comfortable 4-1 winners, with goals from Dest, Aaronson and two for Lletget. A commanding victory and performance from Gregg Berhalter's men. He'll be very pleased with that.

89

GOAL USA! LLETGET AGAIN!

That was almost a carbon copy of his goal just seven minutes ago. Again the LA Galaxy midfielder is teed up just inside the box, again he finds the bottom corner with an expertly placed strike. But this time it's the bottom left.

88

What a chance for Jamaica! The ball falls loose to Tilt from by the edge of the six yard area who shoots but somehow Steffen has kept it out.

82

GOAL USA!!!

Gioacchini slots a short pass to tee up Lletget, who drives the ball into the bottom right corner from just inside the box. And that should game over.

81

USMNT looking to put a two-goal gap between them and their opponents again. Sargent makes way for Sietbatcheu.

71

GOAL JAMAICA!

Lowe plays a long ball to Gray, who holds it up and waits for support. As Lowe darts into the box, Gray picks him out with the perfect chipped pass, allowing the Swansea striker to scoop the ball over Steffen. 2-1!

64

Another chance for Reyna, who collects the ball on the right edge of box, pushes forward into the area before dragging his shot wide of the far left post.

60

Acosta has a go from a similar long-range position as Reyna a few minutes ago. Again it's a decent strike, but again it's just wide of the near post. Aside from a slight deflection, it was almost a carbon copy of Reyna's attempt.

57

Reyna almost makes it three! Sargent releases the Dortmund striker, whose long range shot is just wide of the near top corner.

52

GOAL USA!

Sargent does very well to find space on the left side of the box before playing short cross towards substitute, Aaronson, who only has to tap the ball in from six yards. A nicely worked goal for the USA. 2.0!

51

What a chance for Gio Reyna! The Dortmund man times his run perfectly and collects the through ball by the edge of the area but he can't steer his shot past White.

47

FIrst card of the game goes to Reggie Cannon for pulling on the shirt of Jamaican srtriker Gray.

45

The US get the second half underway!

Sergiño Dest has been on flying form for Barcelona, and that's been reflected in his performance tonight. What a goal it was from the young defender.

45

Peep! Half time!

42

Dest shoots, the shot is blocked. Pulisic pounces on the rebound but drags his shot wide of the near post.

39

Pulisic and Dest are starting to show their superiority now.

38

Pulisic does well to get himself into space in the box but he was torn between shooting or playing a short cross to Sargent. And he's managed to do something between the two as the ball bounces out for a goal kick.

34

GOAL USA!!! DEST WITH A SCORCHER!

Sergio Dest's first goal for the USMNT is an absolute beauty! The Barcelona defender, on the left, dribbles towards the box, cuts inside two defenders and then launches the ball into the top right corner from 20-plus yards. 1-0 USA!

31

Dest plays a clever back heal pass to release Pulisic on the left. The Chelsea man tries to pick out the run of Sargent in the penatly area but Moore does well to stop the ball reaching Sargent.

29

Casey Palmer strikes the close-range free kick for Jamaica but can't get past the wall. The ball rebounds and ends at his feet again, and this time his low-and-hard first-time shot travels all the way into Steffen's hands. It was a decent strike that could have caused the US keeper problems.

27

Pulisic charges into the box before letting off a shot, which is blocked down by two Jamaican backs. The Reggae Boys' defense has been on point so far.

27

27 minutes gone here and US has really yet to test the Jamaican goalkeeper.

20

Change Jamaica! Morris collects a pass sandwiched between US defenders before moving himself into a shooting position. He shoots for the near top corner but it's inches wide. Decent effort from the Jamaica forward, who had Steffen well beaten.

19

LLetget tries a swerving shot with the side of his boot from 20 yards out, but the ball goes well wide.

15

Chance USA! Gio Reyna again the creator, this time giving the decisive pass in the box to Sargent, whose close-range shot is saved by White.

11

Aaron Long evades two defenders on the right side of the box before slotting the ball towards Gio Reyna, whose low cross from a tight angle is well blocked. That's the biggest threat the US has mustured so far.

09

USMNT passing around and trying to find openings in the Jamaica defense, which has proved resilient so far.

06

Jamaica had three corners in quick succession there but could do nothing with them. USMNT back on the ball.

04

First chance of the game comes for Jamaica through a well-delivered corner, but Steffen does well to punch the ball away under pressure.

03

US trying to stamp their authority on the game early.

01

Peep! Jamaica get the game underway.

After a more than a 25-minute delay, the teams are finally on the field and standing for the anthems.

Manchester City goalie Zack Steffan will captain the US for the fourth time against Jamaica.

Last meeting between the teams

The last time these two met was in the semi-finals of the Gold Cup in 2019, with the US winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic, who netted a brace.

Mariappa encourages Reggae Boyz to show their best

Veteran Jamaican defender Adrian Mariappa said that today’s international friendly against the USA is an opportunity for the many new faces in the Reggae Boyz squad to impress and stake a claim for positions.

“Everyone is clear on their position and the way we are going to play, but we will see how it goes because time is not a luxury that we have. So we have to be professional about it and go out there and do the job,” Mariappa said.

“You touch on new faces, and it is a chance for these guys to impress, show what they can bring to the side and make a claim for positions as there is a lot of talent in the squad,” he added.

The game has been delayed 20 mins. KO at 1.20pm ET

"We want to change how the world views American soccer" - Antonee Robinson

After Tuesday's training session, Antonee Robinson spoke about this ‘golden generation’ and their goal for the near future.

"I think ultimately all the players that are being called we all share the same goals. That we want to win trophies, we want to change the way that the world sort of views American soccer,” he said. “You know, there are a lot of young hungry players, and we're excited to try and win stuff, and a lot of time is coming off in the summer, and then obviously qualifying afterwards. It gives us a great opportunity to showcase that."

"Obviously there was a pretty big impact with covid stopping a lot of the games early on in the season. So we haven't had much time to play together and sort of gel as a team, but I think since Greg's been coach, he's had a pretty clear mindset of how he wants to play. And just the work rate that he wants the team to play with and the hunger and desire," Robinson said.

Pulisic on Olympic dream

Christian Pulisic has said he would be keen to represent the US at the upcoming Olympics. However it is expected that Chelsea will veto their US star competing at the games.

"The Olympics is of course a massive honor to play in, and to represent your country in an Olympics would be amazing," Pulisic said.

"It is something I've thought about and that I have wanted to play in. Obviously, I can't control exactly what goes on and what is best for me at the time and the team at the time, I can't say. But it is something that I would like to play in."

"It's a great challenge for us"

Gregg Berhalter, Aaron Long, Josh Sargent and Antonee Robinson spoke ahead of USMNT's meeting with the Reggae Boys...

Dest, Pulisic and Reyna, ready to impress

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s head coach Thedore Whitmore called up 20 players for the match. Players like Liam Moore, Jamal Lowe, Andre Gray, Amari'i Bell, Ethan Pinnock and Kasey Palmer could all make their international debuts.
