Update:
Mbappé top of Real Madrid shortlist as PSG seal Neymar deal

PSG have found themselves negotiating with their two star players for some time and it appears that Neymar will sign a new deal before Kylian Mbappé. According to Teléfoot1, there is a pre-contract agreement in place between Neymar and PSG until 2026. The Ligue 1 club can now focus on dealing with the future of Kylian Mbappé with less pressure than before.

Club president Al-Khelaifi and Sporting director Leonardo have yet been able to convince World Cup winner Mbappé to sign a new deal. Mbappé himself continues to hint that he is still somewhat annoyed with the the criticism he is subjected to in France. "After a while, you get tired of the criticism - obviously, especially when you are playing for a club in your own country and you give everything you've got for your national team as well. All of that gets very tiring," the former Monaco forward said after France's 1-0 win over Bosnia.

The figures and conditions that his Brazilian teammate Neymar has agreed with the club will undoubtedly influence his own negotiation strategy heading into the final year of his contract in Paris. If Mbappé doesn't renew, PSG will reportedly requets a fee of between €120 and €150 million.

Mbappé priority for Madrid

Real Madrid have been developing different strategic plans to land a big name for the opening of their new Santuago Bernabéu stadium. Although Mino Raiola and Erling Haaland's father are publicly looking for the best suitor for the Norwegian striker, Mbappé is at the top of the list for Los Blancos. In order to afford the France forward, Madrid will have to sell several squad members this summer and acquire extra finance after huge losses suffered owing to the coroanvirus pandemic.

Champions League dream

Mbappé knows that if Neymar renews with PSG he will not be the number one star and leader of the club's sporting project for the next five years. On more than one occasion he has hinted that winning the Champions League is his current number one priority and the tears after losing in the final against Bayern in 2020, more of frustration than pain, were a test. PSG face current European champions Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League this week. If PSG fall to the Bundesliga side, the Parisien club will have once again failed in Europe, which could be the final nail in the coffin for Kylian Mbappé.
