World football’s governing body FIFA, has declared that World Cup Qatar 2022 will be a unique experience. Given that it is the first edition of the World Cup to be held in the Middle East, it is also the first time that the tournament will be played during the months of December and November.

Another highlight will be the modern, state-of-the-art stadiums dedicated to the biggest sporting event in the world - they will provide the backdrop as well as a unique platform to celebrate the tournament while showing the host nation's ability to unify and inspire people all over the world.

As planned, the opening match at Qatar 2022 will be played on 21 November 2022 at Al Bayt World Cup Stadium, which is due to be inaugurated this year, while the final will be played at the Lusail World Cup Stadium which is scheduled to open next year.

FIFA announced that the exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2022 World Cup went to Rai, Italy’s national broadcaster, after an auction. Jean-Christophe Petit, Director of Content and Media Services for FIFA, said: “After a very competitive tender process, we are pleased to have concluded a deal with a strong media partner in Italy for the FIFA World Cup 2022. We look forward to working with Rai to make this unique FIFA World Cup a great success and create an unforgettable experience for all Italian fans”.

Rai acquired the broadcasting rights for several platforms including television, radio and digital platforms, as it will be offering all 64 matches of the tournament in optimum quality, as well as broadcasting 28 matches of the 2022 World Cup, among them, the inaugural opening match and the final.
