Mahrez: "Our cup win is well-deserved, the fans' return made the difference"
The Manchester City winger believes the team deserved their EFL Carabao cup win, and noted that the fans' return played an important role in the triumph.
Manchester City's Algerian Winger Riyadh Mahrez stated that Sunday's EFL Carabao Cup win over Tottenham was well deserved. A 82nd minute goal from Aymeric Laporte granted Pep Guardiola's men their fourth cup trophy in a row and the eighth in city's history at Wembley stadium in a game that witnessed fans return to the stands for the first time in a while due to the covid-19 pandemic.
"We know it would be a tough game but we maintained our concentration and kept the possession until we scored. I think we deserved the victory" Mahrez said. "Tottenham are a good team but we believe in ourselves. It's a great victory and we are really happy to win the cup one more time" he added.
Mahrez: Fans' return made a big impact
It's very good for fans to return, they made a big difference. The atmosphere was great despite the few numbers. We can't wait to have more fans soon" the 30-year-old commented.
With this victory, Man City who have won their sixth EFL trophy in eight years, equalled Liverpool's number as the team with the most EFL Cup, while Pep Guardiola became the first manager in history to win the trophy in four consecutive years.
