Edson Alvarez wins the Eredivisie league title with Ajax

Ajax defeated FC Emmen 4-0 on Sunday for matchday 31 of the Eredivisie at the Amsterdam Arena with three games left of the regular season. With this victory the Dutch giants won their 35th league title and manager Ten Hag earned a contract renewal.

Edson Alvarez made his 23rd appearance of the 2020/21 season and went the full 90 on Sunday against FC Emmen. The Mexican international had a better performance in his second season at Amsterdam Arena, because this campaign he scored two goals and gave two assists.

There are three games left of the regular season for Ajax, but since they already secured the title this could mean good news for the Mexico Olympic team. The Dutch giants will end the season on 16 May, so that mean Alvarez could join early the roster that will participate in Tokyo this summer for 'El Tri.'

Second title of the season for Ajax

Last season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, so no one claimed the league title. But after over a year the Dutch’s have a new champion and Ajax will hold on to that title for the upcoming 2021/22 season.

This is Ajax’ second title of the current season, because two weeks ago they defeated Vitesse Arnhem 2-1 in the cup final to secure a domestic double. The Dutch giants have become the best team in the past decade, because in total they have won the league title five out of the last 10 seasons.
