Greg Vanney owns LA Galaxy’s first defeat
The team with the most league titles in MLS suffered their first loss of the season against the Seattle Sounders in week three at the CenturyLink Field.
Prior to facing Seattle, the Los Angeles Galaxy were leading Major League Soccer after winning their opening two games of the 2021 regular season. They were in first place with six points after defeating Inter Miami (3-2) in week 1 and NY Red Bulls (3-2) in week 2, but they had a tough matchup for week 3 against the Seattle Sounders.

The team with the most league titles in MLS (5) had a reality check on Sunday at the CenturyLink Field as they lost 3-0 and dropped to fifth place in the Western Conference. During the post-match press conference the manager of Galaxy, Greg Vanney, assumed responsibility.
“Initial thoughts on the game, I own a lot of how we set up in the game. I wanted us to get a hold of the ball a little bit more. We had guys in decent spots, but we didn’t keep the ball, we didn’t get the ball switched from one side to the other as quickly as we would have liked. We turned it over too much, and then we were exposed," Vanney said.
"I continue to learn about them every day and things that I would definitely not do again as we went through this experience. And a lot of things that as a group that we have to do, just behaviors and things that we are not recognizing, not reading, that we as a group need to be better at to protect ourselves specifically but also to be able to unbalance teams and to hurt them more. We didn’t hurt them enough,” he concluded.
El Tráfico is next up
Galaxy have to learn quickly from their mistakes against Seattle, because for week four of the 2021 MLS regular season they will host one of the best teams of the league, LAFC. This will be the first time of this new season that the city rivals will meet in another edition of what is being called, El Tráfico.
The good news is that the Galaxy will be able to include Sebastian Lletget in the roster after he served a two-game suspension for using a gay slur against a teammate.
