Pizarro left on bench in Inter Miami victory over Cincinnati
For the first time since arriving at Inter Miami in 2020, the Mexican international was left on the bench and didn’t see minutes in week 5 of the 2021 MLS season.
Left on the bench 26 games after
During his first season in Major League Soccer, Pizarro was included in the squad 16 times, starting 15, substituted once and never left on the bench. The last time the former CF Monterrey missed a game was on 18 October 2020 during week 12 of the MLS season and Inter Miami lost 2-1 against Montréal Impact.
The game he played the least minutes (32) was against NY Red Bulls on 24 September 2020 for week 9 of the campaign. In that match, Inter Miami lost 4-1 after the end of the 90 minutes. On Sunday, new manager Phil Neville decided not to play him and Inter Miami beat FC Cincinnati at the TQL stadium in their home opener.
This was the first time in 26 games that Pizarro didn’t see any minutes since joining Inter Miami in 2020. Prior to the beginning of the current season, Neville had said that the Mexican international will be a key player this year, but things have not worked out as planned.
Higuain brothers doing the trick for Neville
In five appearances this season with Inter Miami, Pizarro has only registered one assist and it was in the home opener against the LA Galaxy in the teams 3-2 defeat. Then the team owned by David Beckham bounced back to defeat Philadelphia 2-1 thanks to a superb performance from the Higuain brothers and since then they tied twice and lost 2-0 against CF Montréal.
