Wizards wrap up 8th seed in East, thumping Pacers
The Washington Wizards are moving on to the first round of the NBA Playoffs after a convincing 142-115 win over the Indiana Pacers. Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook led the home side to the blowout victory at the Capital One Arena.
The Eastern Conference Playoff bracket is set after the Wizards win tonight. They will take on the top seeded Philadelphia 76ers.
Wizards pulled away in the second quarter
The Pacers hung tight for a quarter, but a 16-0 to start the second quarter propelled the Wizards to a comfortable victory in the knockout game. Washington went to half with a 14 point lead, and the Pacers weren’t able to close the gap in the second half. A season high 48 point quarter coming out of the halftime broke the game open as the Wizards cruised into the playoffs.
Beal and Westbrook lead the way
After a dismal shooting performance against the Celtics last game, Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook got back on track as the pair combined for 43 points in the winning effort. Westbrook flirted with a first half triple double dropping 15 points, eight rebound, and nine assists. He finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 14 assists.
76ers await the Wizards in the first round
Beal seemed to be a bit bothered by his sore hamstring during the first half. After a quick scare, he showed no signs of that holding him back as he dropped 25. The leagues second leading scorer sat the fourth quarter after the Wizards piled up a large lead going into the final 12 minutes.
The Wizards will now travel to Philadelphia to play the No. 1 seed in the East. Philly has won each of the three games against Washington this year, but this will be the first time these two team meet in the playoffs since 1986.
