What freebies can you get for getting covid-19 vaccine in California?

California, like many places across the US saw vaccination rates drop off last month but have recently begun to tick up again. To give those on the fence a nudge to go out and get their covid-19 vaccination jab some businesses are offering incentives.

Although the Golden State is above the national average for at least one-dose, the state lags slightly behind for those fully vaccinated. In California, everyone over 16 is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and kids as young as 12 can now get the Pfizer shot.

What is the state mask mandate?

Governor Gavin Newsom announced in May that the statewide mask mandate would be modified to align with the CDC recommendations for the outdoors for those fully vaccinated. However, the current indoor settings mandate will remain in place until at least 15 June regardless of vaccination status. Proof of vaccination or a negative test will be required for attendees at large-scale indoor events will go through at least 1 October.

What can California’s get for free if they are vaccinated?

Californians can take advantage of some nationwide offers, one of which can help when proof of vaccination is required. Office Depot and Office Max are offering free lamination for vaccine cards nationwide through 25 July.

Uber and Lyft are giving a free ride to and from vaccination sites to people who have difficulty getting to their covid-19 shot starting 24 May through 4 July. The President announced this initiative as part of reaching his goal of administering at least one vaccine dose to 70% of the population by 4 July in order to loosen restrictions in time for Independence Day gatherings.

Global Citizen is encouraging people to share their stories of why they got vaccinated by offering the chance to win free tickets to a number of events. They include Super Bowl LVI, MLB World Series and Nascar Daytona 500 among several others.

You can get one free glazed doughnut every day if you take your vaccination card to any Krispy Kreme location in the US. All you need to do is show your covid-19 vaccination card, no purchase necessary.

Anyone with proof they have received a covid-19 vaccine can get a free dessert-on-a-stick at White Castle through 31 May with no purchase necessary.

California specific freebies

Flatstick Pub in Sacramento is offering “Shot for Shot Wednesdays.” Through 29 December 2021, just show your covid-19 vaccination card and get a free game of mini golf and Duffleboard every Wednesday.

San Francisco residents can snap a picture of themselves at their vaccination site and then post it on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook with hashtag #covidvaccine. Then when they visit Super Duper Burgers or its sister chain Uno Dos Tacos, show the picture to the cashier and get free fries to go with a burger or free chips and salsa to go with a taco.

Everyday California in San Diego will give vaccinated customers free paddle board, surfboard, and snorkel rentals Monday through Thursday until 14 June. Rentals must be booked online using the code VACCINE, and you'll need to show proof of your shot at the store. Additionally you can get 20% off clothing through the same date showing proof in store or with the code VAX20 for online purchases.
