Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s new venture: “It made sense to bring something special to our own community in Kansas City”
The Chiefs stars are building more than just touchdowns in Missouri, but don’t expect to get yourself a place at the top table.

In Kansas City, you’re never far from football talk. But soon, it might be just as common to hear someone say, “You have to try the Chiefs’ steak.” That’s if Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s long-anticipated restaurant actually opens on time.
Why is restaurant called 1587 Prime?
The NFL stars, who’ve built a dynasty with the Chiefs, are now trying their hand at a more delicate kind of teamwork – running a business together. Their joint project, a high-end American steakhouse called 1587 Prime, has been in the works since early 2023. It’s named after their jersey numbers (15 for Mahomes, 87 for Kelce), and aims to be “a one-of-a-kind dining experience” planted firmly in the heart of Kansas City.
So far, though, the only thing being served is anticipation.
When is Mahomes-Kelce’s 1587 Prime opening?
Originally pitched for an early 2025 launch, 1587 Prime hasn’t yet fired up the grill. But now there’s a sign – literally – that things are heating up: Mahomes and Kelce have posted a job ad for an executive chef. That might not sound dramatic, but in restaurant terms, hiring your kitchen leader means you’re getting close to opening day.
The job listing dropped on LinkedIn, offering between $90,000 and $110,000 a year for someone who can manage kitchen staff, maintain food standards, and bring seasonal creativity to the menu. It also gave a sneak peek at what diners can expect: a nearly 10,000-square-foot venue over two floors, private dining rooms, a meat display, and a world-class chef’s kitchen. Think luxury, but local.
The reason behind Mahomes-Kelce’s 1587 Prime
Mahomes and Kelce aren’t just cashing in on celebrity branding. According to them, this project is about community. As Mahomes told Fox4KC, “We have a love for bringing people together… What better place than Kansas City?”
Kelce echoed that in a press release: “It made sense to bring something special to our own community.”

So while the restaurant might include some “hyper-subtle” nods to their Super Bowl success, both players have said the real goal is accessibility. Mahomes emphasized that they don’t want it to feel too upscale or overpriced. “We’re gonna make it a place where Kansas City can call it home,” he said.
Backed by hospitality group Noble 33, success is more than likely, but we’re not yet sure if you’ll be able to order a quarterbacker with cheese or a tight end of nachos. We’ll be first in line if you can.
