Four players from Club América, Roger Martínez, Nicolás Benedetti, Richard Sánchez and Leonardo Suárez are being investigated by the Liga MX bosses for partying with escorts prior to the start of the playoffs. The reason for the investigation is because they broke the health protocols established by the league.
América to punish the players
América bosses have not released an official statement after the pictures were brought to light on Tuesday morning by a magazine called TVNotas in Mexico. According to multiple reports, Club América would fine the four players mentioned.
The party was organized in a private residence on 6 May during the team’s bye-week before the start of the playoffs. Earlier that day the team had organized a barbecue to celebrate the end of the regular season and finishing in second place after 17 match days.
“If a member of any team is caught not respecting the Liga MX Sanitary Protocol in events not authorized by the Club, they must be separated from the squad for a period of 10 days and will rejoin by presenting a negative PCR test to the League,” read the statement from the league.
It is also expected that Roger Martínez, Nicolás Benedetti, Richard Sánchez and Leonardo Suárez will have to pay around $100,000 to the league for breaking the rules established due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. Also two of the four players are married and neither the club of the people involved have spoken regarding the matter.
