The Phoenix Suns will take a two games to none advantage on the road after handing the Denver Nuggets their largest loss of the season. Chris Paul was brilliant and the Suns showed yet again that why they have been the best defensive team in the playoffs this postseason.
All the attention was focused of Nikola Jokic who entered Game 2 newly crowned as the MVP of the NBA. It was the Suns who stole the show.
Nuggets shooting struggles continue in Game 2
The Nuggets kept it close in the first quarter, despite some dreadful shooting form downtown. After a 1-10 start from deep Denver were only down four in the first quarter.
Phoenix has depended on defense to get them to this point of the playoffs. They are the top defense in this year’s NBA playoffs, giving up less than 100 points a game.
Healthy Paul back to his best
Six different Suns player scored in double digits, with Devin Booker’s 18 leading the way. For a second straight game Phoenix has proved they don’t need their star scorer put up spectacular numbers to win.
Instead it was Chris Paul who was spectacular tonight, The future Hall of Famer had 17 points and dished out 15 assists, and proved once again that the shoulder injury he suffered in the first round is fully healed.
Paul has been nearly perfect through two games
Not only did CP3 dish out 15 assists, but he didn’t commit a single turnover in Game 2. Over the course of the opening two games in Phoenix Paul has 26 assists and one turnover.
Jokic got off to a quick start in the first quarter, with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, but fizzled over the next three quarters. He was left to carry the brunt of the load for Denver on the offensive end, and at one point late in the third quarter he had made eight field goals while the rest of his teammates only combined for nine.
The Serbian finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds, but got little back up from his supporting cast. Paul Millsap and Michael Porter Jr. trailed the MVP with 11 points a piece.
Game 3 Friday night in Denver
The series now shifts to Denver, and the Nuggets have their backs against the wall going into game three. Tip off from Game 3 in Salt Lake City is set for Friday 10 PM ET.

The Nuggets Will Barton is expected to return after missing Game 1 with a hamsting injury

Second half surge lifts Suns to Game 1 win
The Suns took Game 1 in Arizona after a sensational second half pushed them to a 122-105 win. There were four Phoenix players that scored 20 points or more. Mikal Bridges led the way with 23 points on Monday night. Devin Booker had 21, and the Suns once again proved Booker is capable of sharing the spotlight in route to victory.
Jokic named MVP of the NBA
Newly named MVP Nikola Jokic had 22 and 9 rebounds to lead the Nuggets, but didn’t get much support on the offensive end. Aaron Gordon had 18 points and 4 boards.
The Nets ended the regular season with the second best record in the league going 51-21. After an 11 year absence they are making a stronger case as actual title contenders with every win. After taking down the Lakers in the first round, they have a chance to take a commanding lead in the series tonight.
