England vs Croatia | 9am ET

Preview

England and Croatia get their Euro 2020 campaigns underway at Wembley with a repeat of their 2018 World Cup semi-final, which saw Zlatko Dalic’s men break English hearts by earning a 2-1 win in Moscow.

The sides have met twice since then, in the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League, drawing 0-0 in Rijeka before England claimed a 2-1 triumph at Wembley to reach the competition’s finals stage at the Croats’ expense.

While England go into the Euros on a run of six straight victories, Croatia’s form has been altogether more inconsistent: they have won just two of their last nine, against Cyprus and Malta.

Speaking ahead of this afternoon’s clash in London, Croatia captain Luka Modric told the BBC he feels England will draw an unfair advantage from playing all three of their Group D games at Wembley. "Everyone would say teams at home with a crowd, that there is a slight advantage," he said.

AS English prediction: England 1-1 Croatia

Venue: Wembley Stadium, London

Kick-off time: 9am ET, 6am PT, 3pm CEST

Austria vs North Macedonia | 12 noon ET

Preview

North Macedonia make their debut at a major tournament finals today in Bucharest, with a Group C clash against an Austria side they also met in qualifying for the European Championship.

The Austrians won home and away on their way to sealing automatic qualification behind Poland, while North Macedonia then beat Belarus and Georgia in the play-offs to book their Euro 2020 spot.

Since the second of those defeats to Austria, however, North Macedonia have lost just twice in 14 - a run that includes a shock 2-1 win away to Germany in 2022 World Cup qualifying.

“I think that many things have changed since those two [Euro 2020 qualifying] matches,” Macedonian coach Igor Angelovski says. “Because they were played two years ago, if I am right, and during those two years our national team has grown from one match to the next and played better football, the players have made progress in each match, and this is completely different from the qualifiers.”

Appearing at the Euros for the third time, Austria are yet to progress beyond the group stage or even register a win at the finals.

AS English prediction: Austria 0-0 North Macedonia

Venue: National Arena Bucharest, Bucharest

Kick-off time: 12 noon ET, 9am PT, 6pm CEST

Netherlands vs Ukraine | 3pm ET

Preview

The Netherlands will play their first game at a major tournament finals in seven years when they host Ukraine in Amsterdam today.

After a semi-final finish at World Cup 2014, the Dutch failed to reach both Euro 2016 and World Cup 2018, but under former coach Ronald Koeman they made it to this summer’s delayed finals by finishing second behind Germany in qualifying Group C.

After taking over at Barcelona, Koeman was replaced by fellow former Netherlands captain Frank de Boer, who has so far overseen just five wins in 11 as Oranje boss.

Ukraine, who impressively topped their qualifying group ahead of reigning European champions Portugal, have never faced the Dutch competitively. The teams last met in a 1-1 friendly draw in Donetsk.

AS English prediction: Netherlands 2-1 Ukraine

Venue: Johan Cruyff Arena, Amsterdam

Kick-off time: 3pm ET, 12 noon PT, 9pm CEST
