The game has ended between Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago. Scoreless draw in the opening match of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament. Rogelio Funes Mori was able to bring down the ball inside sixth and tries to poke the ball to find the back of the net, but once again the goalkeeper Phillips miraculously was able to save it to keep the clean sheet after 75 minutes.  


The game was stopped once again due to a head collision between a player from Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago. Fortunately it was not serious and the will be able to resume playing.

What a great back heel pass from Hector Herrera to Orbelín Pineda, but the Cruz Azul player shoots the ball right to the hands of the keeper Phillips. Mexico can't find the back of the net after 21 shots, only 4 have been on target.

Carlos Salcedo comes out and his place is taken by Jonathan dos Santos. This substitution was made because of an apparent injury, the second one for Mexico in this match.


Luis Rodríguez makes a good run down the right wing and he gives a low cross to Hector Herrera inside the box, but his shot is blocked by the defenders.

The first 45 minutes have ended with a nil-nil draw. Mexico has had an overwhelming possession of the ball, but they have not been accurate in their attempts of goal. Trinidad and Tobago are doing a good job on defense, but the highlight of the first half is the serious injury of Hirving Lozano. The Napoli playmaker suffered a neck injury, a possible concussion and a cut on his eyebrow after an accidental collision with the goalkeeper from the Soca Warriors in the 10th minute of the game.

The former Porto captain is looking for more minutes and before his contract expires with Atlétiico, he could switch teams during the summer transfer window. According to Tribuna VFC, Valencia’s manager, José Bordalás, wants the Mexican midfielder in his team for the 2021/22 campaign.

Hirving Lozano seems to have suffered a concussion after a collision with the goalkeeper from Trinidad and Tobago. It seems that the Napoli player won't be able to continue, because he also suffered a cut on his right eyebrow.

And away we go! The opening match of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign has started. Mexico will look to start with a victory against Trinidad and Tobago in Dallas, Texas at the AT&T stadium.

The federation started a campaign using their players urging the fans not to use any homophobic chants during the opening match of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign,

Every time this two sides play against each other in an opening match of the Gold Cup, Mexico defeated Trinidad and Tobago both times. the first score was 4-2 in 1998 and the second victory was 4-0 in the 2000 campaign.

Rogelio Funes Mori scores on Mexico debut

Martino was waiting for Rogelio Funes Mori to receive his Mexican citizenship so he would be eligible to play for the national team in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament. The striker from Monterrey received his papers last month and he was included in the final roster for the tournament that starts on 10 July. Most likely Funes Mori will start tonight against Trinidad and Tobago.


Guardado suffers serious injury while training with Mexico

More problems for Mexico prior to the start of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament. Last week it was reported by TUDN, that Andrés Guardado suffered a serious injury at the end of the squad's training session in Carson, California. The captain of 'El Tri' will miss the tournament


Guatemala to replace Curaçao in 2021 Gold Cup

On Friday it was reported that Curaçao had a high number of positive cases of coronavirus and CONCACAF decided to drop them from the tournament because they couldn’t reschedule their upcoming games. So their place will be taken by the Guatemala national team who now are traveling to Frisco, Texas.

Mexico and USMNT find out identity of first Gold Cup rivals

Everything is set for the start of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup on 10 July that will be hosted by the United States. There were only three tickets left to advance to the group stage of the tournament and six teams were looking to win their respective games to secure a spot. Mexico, the USMNT and Costa Rica were the last teams to find the identity of their respective rivals for matchday 1.
