New England Patriots vs Washington 2021 preseason game: times, TV and how to watch online
The first full week of preseason is set to start with two games on Thursday night. New England and Washington start their preseason at Gillette Stadium.
Day 2 and technically Week 2 of preseason gets underway on Thursday evening when the New England Patriots and the Washington Football Team kick off the first jam packed weekend of the new NFL sesaon.
The Steelers and the Cowboys got the season started in the Hall of Fame Game last week, but Thursday's game at Gillette Stadium will commence the opening week for all 32 NFL teams.
Washington looking for another play off run
Washington finished last season under .500 but still managed to make the playoffs and almost stunned the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Bucs. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be at the helm of the Football Team’s offense this season if he can hold off Taylor Heinicke for the starting quarterback spot in Week 1.
Both quarterbacks will have some new toys to play with this season, as Adam Humphries and Curtis Samuel both came to offseason agreements with the capital city franchise. Washington’s defense, like last year, will be the Achilles heel for Ron Rivera’s side this term. Last season they were 5th in the league in points allowed and yards allowed.
Pats QB battle warming up
The Patriots may have the quarterback battle of the preseason. Cam Newton came in to Foxborough last season after Tom Brady shipped off to Tampa Bay, and Newton had some big shoes to fill after the future Hall of Famer left a big void in the New England offense.
All eyes will be on Mac Jones, who was drafted by the Pats with the 15th pick of the first round. The former Alabama QB was the most accurate passer in the NCAA last year, but he’s an old school gunslinger who doesn’t escape the pocket too often. The Pats did pretty well with a similar style quarterback over the last two decades.
