Bucks resign Giannis' brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo

NBA champions the Milwaukee Bucks have confirmed the resigning of reserve forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo on a reported two-year deal.

In his second year at Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo, who is the older sibling of two-time NBA MVP and team mate Giannis Antetokounmpo, made a career-high 57 appearences in the Bucks championship-winning season, averaging 2.9 points and 2.2 rebounds in 9.7 minutes per game while shooting 48.9% from the field.

The reserve forward also made his NBA playoff debut last season, playing 13 games of the Buck’s run to the NBA title.

“Thanasis brings energy, effort and tenacity every minute of every game,” said Bucks General Manager Jon Horst in a statement released on the franchise's official website. “He’s a valuable part of our team and we’re excited to have him remain in Milwaukee.”

No doubt Giannis, the standout star of the Bucks title-winning campaign, will be delighted to have his older brother around for at least two more seasons.

Thanasis career progression

Prior to joining the Bucks, Thanasis had spent the previous three seasons in Greece and Spain, after his first season in the NBA in 2015-16 saw him play just two games for the New York Knicks.

In 2019, the Bucks offered the 6-6 Greek forward a chance to return to the NBA and over his two seasons in Milwaukee he has played a total of 77 games (starting 5) and averaged 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.8 minutes per game.

Bucks resign Porter, sign three new players

Ahead of the 2021-22 season, the Bucks have also resigned forward Bobby Portis (who averaged 11.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 66 regular season games last season) while adding three new signings - guard George Hill, guard-forward Rodney Hood and forward Semi Ojeley - to the roster.
