Manchester United 4-1 Newcastle United: as it happened

Manchester United really turned it on in the second half, scoring three excellent goals to collect all three points on Cristiano Ronaldo's second debut for the club.

FT: Manchester United 4-1 Newcastle United

It's a magnificent fourth for United. Pogba rolls it into Martial, who dummies it for Lingard and the sub curls it past Woodman.

92

GOAL! Lingard makes it four!

91

We've moved into the final three minutes at the end of the 90.

90

Joelinton is down and getting treatment.

88

The game has slowed down and there's no real way back for Newcastle at this stage.

85

Manchester United substitutions:

OFF Bruno Fernandes & Mason Greenwood

ON Donny Van de Beek & Anthony Martial

Manchester United 3-1 Newcastle United

Pogba rolls it to Bruno, who absolutely smashes it into the top corner from 25 yards. Superb strike.

80

BRUNOOOOOO!!!

WHAT A GOAL!

80

Manchester United clear the corner.

79

Newcastle corner. All the defenders are up as they look for an equaliser.

77

Newcastle change:

OFF Manquillo

ON Murphy

75

Newcastle head Shaw's corner out. What a player he has become under Solskjaer.

72

Pogba sends a long cross past everyone and it goes out for a goalkick.

67

Dave saves!

Joelinton works his way past Varane and unleashes a fine effort at De Gea. The Spaniard punches it away. Newcastle are not finished yet.

66

Manchester United change:

OFF Sancho

ON Lingard

Fergie

Sir Alex Ferguson looks on at Old Trafford.

Old Trafford is rocking!

It's a superb goal by Ronaldo. Luke Shaw breaks through the lines and releases the 36-year-old, who smashes it beyond Woodman to put United ahead again. 2-1

62

RONALDO SCORES!!!

Newcastle hit United on the break. Almirón does brilliantly down the left, before playing it into Saint-Maximin. The striker finds Manquillo on the right and the Spanish defender fires it past his compatriot De Gea.

55

GOAL NEWCASTLE!

Manquillo scores to make it 1-1.

53

Matt Ritchie sends a left wing cross straight across the box. It's a wild one and evades everyone.

An emotional day for the Ronaldo family!

48

Manchester United will be looking for an early goal in this second half. Newcastle, however, are still in it and looked a threat on the counter in the first half but failed to take their chances.

46

Manchester United get us underway!

There have been no half-time changes made by either side.

The players are back out on the pitch ahead of the second half at Old Trafford.

HT: Manchester United 1-0 Newcastle United (Ronaldo)

Greenwood's shot from the edge of the box is spilled by Woodman and Ronaldo is there to tap it into the empty net.

He's back with a bang!

Ronaldo scores on his debut! It could only be him!

47

ROOOOOONALDO!!!!!

45

The fourth official has announced that there will be two minutes added on at the end of the half.

The Newcastle fans are now letting the United fans know what they think of them! It has gone a bit quiet inside Old Trafford.

42

Fred and Dalot have started warming up but I wouldn't look too far into that.

39

Ronaldo goes down the right, double stepovers and shoots but its blocked. The ball falls to Bruno, who whips it back into the box but there is nobody at the back post.

36

Saint-Maximin shoots wide from out on the left-hand side of the box. He won't be happy with that one.

32

Maguire!

The England international gets on the end of Shaw's corner. His header is straight at Woodman.

30

Bruno goes close for Man United. The Portuguese finds himself in space on the edge of the box, before unleashing a low shot. Sancho gets a touch on it but it flies wide. 0-0

28

Joelinton strikes high and wide of De Gea's goal after a mix-up at the back for United. He should really do better, a good chance for the forward.

28

It's coming up to the half-hour mark in the six Premier League games and it remains 0-0 in all of them.

26

BRUNO!

Bruno tries a Beckham from the halfway line. It sails over Woodman's net but what a goal that would have been!

23

Another Newcastle break sees the ball fall to Matt Ritchie on the left-hand side of the area, about 20 yards from goal. The left-footed player keeps his effort low but De Gea gets down to save it.

22

Newcastle are looking to hit Man United on the break with the speed of  Saint-Maximin. Steve Bruce's side have been compact and disciplined with their defending so far.

19

VARANE!

The big French defender finds space in the box and sends his header just wide from Shaw's corner.

19

Coming up to 20 minutes in the other Premier League games and there hasn't been a single goal scored. Crystal Palace beat Tottenham 3-0 in the early kick-off.

Isn't it iconic?

15

Matt Ritchie flies forward and gets a shot away but it bounces off Wan-Bissaka and goes out for a throw to the away side.

10

Ronaldo again!

Ronaldo drops the shoulder with a stepover and gets by Manquillo before sending a left-footed strike high into the side netting.

9

Bruno's back-post cross falls to Ronaldo, who spins but fails to make a clear connection with the ball and his shot flies wide.

6

Joelinton pulls his effort wide of De Gea's near post. That's Newcastle's first real chance so far.

3

The home side have started well here. Newcastle clear a bouncing ball in the box after some good play by Greenwood down the right. The away side have set up in a 5-4-1 formation.

Manchester United are playing from left to right as we watch it.

Ronaldo takes up the No 9 role straightaway.

We're underway!

'Viva Ronaldo' is belted out around Old Trafford as the players make their way onto the pitch. Ronaldo comes out last.

There is a fantastic atmosphere at Old Trafford. The players are in the tunnel and kick-off is just five minutes away.

Manchester United vs Newcastle United not available in England

Cristiano Ronaldo's debut for Manchester United is one of the biggest events in world football this weekend, and it won't be televised in the UK. In England it is forbidden to televise live matches on Saturday afternoons between 2:45pm and 5:15pm UK time.

The two-and-a-half-hour television blackout is a UEFA-sponsored rule designed to protect the bulk of the British football matchday, which always starts at 3pm, and is intended to encourage fans to stay in stadiums across the UK during that time. The theory behind its introduction is that regular fans will not change their minds if there is a Premier League match on TV, but "casual fans" might, with the economic consequences that would have on the grassroots of English football. With most weekend fixtures taking place at 3pm, the blackout encourages viewers not to turn their backs on the lowest-ranked clubs in the English football pyramid.

Solskjaer on Ronaldo: "Everyone is very happy to have him back"

"He had a good pre-season with Juventus, he's played for his national team and has had a good week with us here," Solskjaer said at Friday's pre-match news conference.

"He will definitely be on the pitch at some point, that's for sure.

"Everyone is very happy to have him back. He can speak for himself but he seems happy to be back as well.

"The mood has been good and we're looking forward to Saturday.

"The way he has come in and conducted himself... we know what he's achieved in his career but he's coming here to achieve more.

"He's lived the life of a top professional ever since he came here. You can't go into training and give 95 per cent and not be focused, that's what he demands from everyone."
