AFC runs through KC
For the last two years, the Kansas City Chiefs have been the dominant force in the American Football Conference, and with an offense that has proved nearly unstoppable and some key additions on the defensive end all signs point to the road to the Super Bowl running through KC.
The Cleveland Browns have, not so quietly, been building a team that they hope will be at the front of the pack with teams like the Chiefs and the Titans. The Browns clinched a playoff spot by snagging the final wild card spot with a win over the Steelers.
Rematch of last years AFC Divisional Round
These two sides met in the second round of the playoffs, and Cleveland gave the Chiefs everything they could handle. The Browns got off to a slow start last January, going down 19-3 in the opening half. A second half injury to Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes halted the offensive flow for the Kansas City, and allowed the Browns to make a comeback late in the game.
Back up quarterback Chad Henne put the game on ice with a scramble on 3rd and 14 to seal the game for the Chiefs and secure a second straight trip to the AFC Championship.
Browns secondary gets a make over
This year the Browns are certain to see more of Patrick Mahomes, just like Mahomes is certain to see a beefed up secondary that features cornerback Troy Hill and safety John Johnson and first round draft pick cornerback Greg Newsome.
Baker Mayfield is back und er center and will have some playoff experience under his belt after getting to a game away from the AFC Championship in 2020. Odell Beckham Jr. is back at full force after missing a big chunk of last year after tearing his ACL in Week 7 of last year.
Cleveland will be looking to incorporate plenty of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in the run game, as they hope to take some steam out of the potent Chiefs offense.
Mahomes and KC offense one of best in the league
Mahomes threw for almost 40 touchdowns last year, a quarter of those were to tight end Travis Kelce. And of course there is the KC big play threat Tyreek Hill, who had 15 touchdowns last year.
The Browns come into this season looking to make a statement and there would be no better way than to shock the Chiefs in Arrowhead in Week 1. Kickoff from Kansas City is set for 4:25 p.m. ET.
