Real Madrid player ratings vs Inter Milan
Real Madrid opened their Champions League account with an important 1-0 victory over Inter at San Siro thanks to Rodrygo's late goal. We took a look at how each player performed on the night.
Carlo Ancelotti post-match: "It's a very important victory. The team had a great attitude and thanks to Courtois we have kept a clean sheet. If we're in a low block we have more chances to play on the break. We played more to the wings with the introduction of Rodrygo. We had to suffer and be compact and I really enjoyed the game."
Rodrygo post-match: "I'm really happy to have scored the goal. I love playing in the Champions League and of course scoring goals in the Champions League. I always want to play. I know I can help the team but I respect the manager's decisions."
Well, that is an excellent result for Real Madrid. They start their Group D campaign with three points thanks to Rodrygo's late winner. Courtois was excellent on the night for Ancelotti's side.

INTER chance!
Courtois saves once again. Dzeko should really score there. From 8 yards out he shoots straight at the Belgian. 0-0
Calhanoglu drives forward on the counter attack, Lautaro makes a run across the Madrid defence, before the Turkish playmaker rolls a ball that goes just too far ahead of the Argentinian striker.
Straight up the other end, Barella whips a fine ball into Lautaro, who also sends his header wide. And just seconds later, Brozovic drives a low shot wide of Courtois' right-hand post. This lifts the San Siro.
Madrid earn their first corner. Militao is completely alone in the six yard and sends his header wide. A great chance for the away team. 0-0
It has become somewhat scrappy. Inter attack through Dzeko. It's eventually won back and Madrid look to keep it, something they have struggled to do so far.

CASEMIRO!
Madrid's first chance of the game comes from Casemiro. From 30 yards out, he sends a low strike past Handanovic's left-hand post.
Brozovic crosses to the back post. It's too high for Perisic, who fails to make a clean connection. Real Madrid goalkick.
DZEKO!

It has been a lively start, but there haven't been any clear-cut chances thus far.

Real Madrid's Vinicius: "I knew the goals would eventually come"
Vinicius sat down with AS to discuss his rich vein of form, his link-up with Benzema and states that he is a "fan" of Mbappé.
-Back in 2018, you were the toast of the Bernabéu. Now in 2021 it's happening again. In this stadium, the likes of Zidane or even Cristiano have been whistled at. To what do you attribute your excellent relationship with the Bernabéu crowd?
"This is something that I'm highly proud of. I do believe that my style of play has much to do with it. I like to take players on and if I mess up, then I'll try again. I hope this good relationship for many years to come."
- Does your style of play originate from your neighborhood and the beach when you were growing up?
"Here I like to play as if I was at home, as I did in Brazil. I like to play with happiness and with the help of the fans' support, it's a style I plan to keep using. We play to keep the supporters happy."
How many finals and titles does Eden Hazard have?
The Belgian forward has endured a torrid time at Real Madrid but his winning record at previous clubs is still very impressive.
Starting his career at Lille, in Northern France but close to the Belgian border, Hazard won the league and cup double in the 2010/11 season, marking the last time the club had won either trophy until their league triumph last season. It was the club's first championship since the 1953/54 season.
In that season, Hazard won the Ligue 1 Player of the Year for the second year running despite scoring just 7 goals all season.
Real Madrid XI vs Inter
Courtois - Carvajal, Militao, Nacho, Alaba - Casemiro, Modric, Valverde - Lucas Vázquez, Benzema, Vinicius.
There is no place in Carlo Ancelotti's side for Eden Hazard.
Team News
We will have the team news from both camps as soon as it's in!
Ancelotti back in Europe with Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti will start his bid for a record fourth Champions League title, and a second with Real Madrid, on familiar ground when he takes his side to San Siro to face the Italian.
Ancelotti won the first two of his three Champions Leagues while in charge of city rivals AC Milan and will be eager to put one over on his old foes, now managed by Simone Inzaghi following the departure of Serie A-winning coach Antonio Conte.
Given Madrid’s scramble to find defensive cohesion this season after the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphaël Varane and the absence of Ferland Mendy and Marcelo from Ancelotti’s squad, goals can be expected at San Siro.
When the sides met at the same stage last season Madrid recorded 3-2 and 2-0 victories that helped them through to the last 16 after two defeats at the hands of Shakhtar complicated their group stage campaign. Ancelotti will be hoping for more of the same on his old stomping ground.
