Rodgers, Jones give Green Bay first win of season: NFL Week 2 ratings
The Green Bay Packers thumped the Detroit Lions with brilliant performances from QB Aaron Rodgers and RB Aaron Jones. Both Aarons accounted for four TDs.
The Detroit Lions kept the game close until halftime, but Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Jones took the game over in the second half as the Packers rolled to their first victory of the season.
Green Bay skill players:
QB Aaron Rodgers: 8.5
After throwing for just 133 yards in Week 1, all eyes were on GB’s No. 12 and he delivered. He was nearly perfect going 22/27 for 225 yards and throwing 4 TDs. He didn’t throw for more yards because he didn’t need to.
RB Aaron Jones: 9
Jones was with out question the MVP of the game. Scoring three receiving touchdowns and rushing for another, the Lions had no answer for the Packers running back. He had 115 yards total including 67 on the ground.
RB: AJ Dillon: 3
Didn’t do much, because he didn’t have to do much. Used a bruising running back late in games Dillon had five rushes for 18 yards.
WR Davante Adams: 7
Adams had a quiet 121 yards receiving, if that’s possible. He was definitely overshadowed by Jones’ monster night. But Adams showed how important he is to this team and to Aaron Rodgers. If there’s a better QB/WR duo when they are both on I’d like to see it.
WR Randall Cobb: 4
Cobb didn’t have much of a say in the first half. He had three catches in the second, but was targeted too often by Rodgers tonight.
WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling: 0
MVS was targeted a few times but had no catches on the night.
TE Robert Tonyan: 6.5
Steady, consistent play from a tight end who seems to be growing into his role as the games go by. His fourth season with the Packers may be his biggest yet.
Detroit Lions skill players:
QB Jared Goff: 6
Goff flirted with perfection in the first half, going 13-16 for 137 yards, but fizzled fast in the second half. The 4th down pass to Cephus could have been a bit tighter to the body, and after that things spiraled out of control. He fumbled twice, losing one and threw and interception for a total of 4 TO’s in the second half.
RB Andre Swift: 3
Unless you play for the Baltimore Ravens, it’s never a good thing to see your quarterback lead the team in rushing. Swift had just 37 yards on 8 carries.
RB Jamaal Williams: 2.5
The same could be said for Williams as for Swift. Heavily out rushed by his quarterback on in his return to Lambeau. He’ll be disappointed he only had 25 yards on 7 carries against the team that traded him away in the offseason.
WR Quintez Cephus: 4.5
Capped off the opening drive of the game with a touchdown, and almost had what would have surely been the catch of the season in the third quarter. But the Lions receivers need to provide more help to Goff in the absence of Tyrell Williams. He finished the game with 4 catches for 63 yards.
WR Trinity Benson: 2
Had an inconsequential catch for 24 yards in the second half, and that was the extent of his night.
WR Kalif Raymond: 2
Just 18 yards on 2 catches for Raymond.
TE T.J. Hockenson: 5.5
The tight end is without question Goff’s favorite target without Williams around. His touchdown catch in the second quarter gave the Lions the brief lead. He had 8 catches for 66 yards, but that’s not enough for the Goff’s main target on the receiving end.
