MLS and Liga MX confirm changes to Leagues Cup in 2023
Major League Soccer and Liga MX made a major announcement on Tuesday regarding the change of format of the Leagues Cup starting in 2023. All the clubs from the top two leagues will compete in an annual, month-long tournament that will be played in the summer. So both leagues, MLS and Liga MX, will pause their respective campaigns for one month to play in the Leagues Cup.
CONCACAF approves the alliance between MLS and Liga MX
Since Major League Soccer announced that the 2021 All-Star game will be played against the best players from Liga MX, it has been rumored that both leagues will become one in the near future. It seems that the announcement will come sooner rather than later because according to Mediotiempo as CONCACAF has approved the alliance between both leagues.
Brian Schmetzer, head coach of the Seattle Sounders, and his players are hoping to bring home their first international trophy. However, the chance to win doesn't come without pressure. Schmetzer briefly commented on the rivalry between the leagues saying "Our club comes first, our players come first and then we will see which league is better on the evening tomorrow."
