What were the Panthers-Texans player ratings in NFL's Week 3
Sam Darnold was the star for Carolina Panthers in their 24-9 win over the Houston Texans. Houston rookie QB Davis Mills struggled against Carolina defense.
The Carolina Panthers moved to 3-0 on the young season with a convincing road win over the Houston Texans on Thursday night. Sam Darnold shined, while rookie Davis Mills and the Texans struggled against the Panthers top rated defense in the league.
Carolina Panthers ratings:
Sam Darnold QB: 7.5
Another stellar performance for Darnold. Two straight 300 yard games, three touchdowns on Thursday, two on the ground and one in the air. If this is what’s to come in Carolina, Panther fans will be thinking playoffs and beyond.
Christian McCaffrey RB: 4
Had a bright start to the game, rushing for 31 yards on seven carries with a couple catches out of the back field. A hamstring injury cut his night short, and disrupted the Panthers offense for a quarter.
Chubba Hubbard RB: 4
The rookie was left with the brunt of the carries after McCaffrey’s injury and didn’t really take off until the final touchdown drive of the night. He ended the night with 52 yards on 11 carries and three catches. He’ll to be getting more carries with McCaffrey out, will he be ready?
Robbie Anderson WR: 1
Made one catch for eight yards. A virtual non factor for the Panthers offense.
DJ Moore WR: 6.5
A spectacular start to the game. He had 100 yards before the first half was up, and has become Darnold’s golden target. Moore ended his night with 8 catches and 126 yards.
Terrance Marshall Jr. WR: 4.5
Not a not to remember Marshall, who had 48 yards on 4 receptions. Darnold spread the ball to 9 different receivers so big stats were going to be hard to come by if your name isn’t DJ Moore.
Dan Arnold TE: 4
Just two catches that went for 23 yards for the starting tight end. Not his most productive night, but is always a solid option for Darnold.
Tommy Tremble TE: 6
Quite a coming out party for the rookie who scored his first touchdown on a 7 yard end around. Came up with some big catches in the second half, including one on third down that kept the drive alive in the fourth quarter.
Houston Texans ratings:
Davis Mills QB: 4.5
Unlucky to have to play the leagues best defense in his first career start. Was battered all night in the backfield, but showed toughness and had a few bright moments. He took care of the ball and went 19/28 for 168 yards and a touchdown.
Mark Ingram RB: 2
Houston needed their running game to come alive tonight, but Ingram got just 6 carries for 21 yards. He wasn’t given much of an opportunity to get involved in the game.
Phillip Lindsay RB: 0
Had the most carries of the night with 7, but gained just 5 yards. Houston will need much more out of him and Ingram with Mills under center.
Brandin Cooks WR: 6.5
He was the only real threat to the Panthers all game. Cooks had a long reception of 30 yards on the touchdown drive, and was constantly targeted by Mills. He ended the night with 9 receptions and 112 yards.
Chris Conley WR: 0
Didn’t make a catch the whole night. Wasn’t target too often, if at all. With Danny Amendola out Conley needed to play a bigger role.
Anthony Miller WR: 4
Miller had the TD catch right before the half to tie the game up, but did little outside of that. He had just four catches for 20 yards on the night.
Jordan Akins TE: 3
The tight end can some times be a young quarterbacks’ best friend. That wasn’t the case tonight. Akins had just 4 receptions for 32 yards. He bailed out Mills on occasions, but didn’t make an impact on the game.
