Keylor Navas avoids talking about Donnarumma upon arrival in Costa Rica
The goalkeeper from Paris Saint-Germain decided to only talk about the national team and the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in CONCACAF.
The Costa Rica national team has struggled to find a new generation of players after their historic World Cup run in 2014. Since then they have been unable to compete in major tournaments and at Russia 2018 they finished the campaign with two losses and one draw in the group stage.
In search of their first win in the World Cup qualifiers
‘Los Ticos’ started their road to the 2022 Qatar World Cup last month and in the start of the final round, they finished with a scoreless draw against Panama on 2 September and three days later they lost 1-0 at home against Mexico. Then on 8 September they tied 1-1 against Jamaica and they will hope that they can turn things around in the international window this month.
“As a soccer player we always want to play in the World Cup and we will give our best effort in every game. At the end of the day it is a dream to play in such an important tournament and we will try to fulfill it,” said goalkeeper Keylor Navas to Diario Extrau upon arriving in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica will start the second round of the World Cup qualifiers in CONCACAF against Honduras away on 7 October. Three days later they will host El Salvador and then they go on the road again to face the United States on 13 October.
The goalkeeping situation at PSG
The manager of Paris Saint-Germain, Mauricio Pocchetino, has been alternating Gigi Donnarumma and Keylor Navas, as the two keepers compete for the starting role. When a journalist asked Navas about it, the goalkeeper from Costa Rica said: “You like controversy.”
