Gianluca Pagliuca surprised at PSG goalkeeper situation

Paris Saint-Germain signed Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this season, but he has only played two league games this season. The young Italian shot-stopper has conceded one goal and kept one clean sheet in the 2021/22 League 1 campaign. PSG’s manager Mauricio Pochettino has favored goalkeeper Keylor Navas so far this season, since the Costa Rica international has been the number one option since arriving in 2019.

“Navas is not fit to lace his boots”

Former Inter Milan goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca can’t believe that Gianluigi Donnarumma is not the starting goalkeeper for PSG especially after helping Italy win Euro 2020 this summer and deciding to sign with the French side as a free agent.

I don't understand. Perhaps you have the best goalkeeper in the world and you leave him on the bench? Navas is a good goalkeeper, but with all due respect, he is not fit to lace his [Donnarumma] boots,” said the 53-year-old during an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.

I think he [Donnarumma] will be a regular starter from next season,” he added. Donnarumma had the possibility of signing with Juventus this summer, but the ‘Old Lady’ decided to keep Wojciech Szczęsny and the Italian goalkeeper decided to join PSG.

“The criticism towards Szczesny is too much. Juventus are not as solid as they used to be,” Pagliuca said. “Don’t forget Gigi Buffon was relegated to the bench because of him. He made two mistakes, that’s true, but Juventus’ problems do not lie in goal.”
