Cowboys 35, Patriots 29 - Game Summary
This game was one of those notorious Cowboys games which gives their fans grey hairs, but eventually is worth it. It was a close game with penalties, penalties, and more penalties - mostly on the Cowboys. They were penalized 12 times for 115 yards.
Q1
In the first quarter, the Patriots took an early lead with a touchdown by Damien Harris. The Cowboys didn't take long to come back and tie up the game though. Prescott and the Boys made it down the field quick and a pass to Jarwin put them at 7-7. It didn't last long though, and the Cowboys let the Patriots get down the field again in a hurry. A 20-yard pass to Henry resulted in a Patriots TD, putting them up 14-7.
Q2
In the second half, the penalties on the Cowboys started to get really out of hand. They couldn't make it down the field for the TD so they settled for a 30-yard field goal by Zuerlein to make the score 14-10 Patriots. They shot themselves in the foot several times with missed opportunities due to penalties.
Q3
It was the Cowboys who scored the first points of the second half in the third quarter. Prescott's pass to Ceedee Lamb in the endzone gave the Cowboys the lead for the first time at 17-14. Though they maintained the lead for the remainder of the quarter, the flags saw them miss even more opportunities to maximize.
Q4
In the fourth quarter, the Cowboys again fail to get far enough down the field for a TD, so they settle for a field goal which puts them six points ahead with a score of 20-14 and 13:13 left in the game. The Patriots on the other hand, are able to get the ball down the field for a TD which puts them up by a point, 21-20. The penalties ruin the Cowboys chances at redemption so they attempt a 51-yard field goal but Zuerlein misses it. With just over two minutes, the Cowboys are down by a point and the Patriots have a ball. They needed a miracle and they got one when Jones' pass to Bourne was intercepted by Trevon Diggs, who ran it back 42 yards for a Cowboys touchdown to put them up 26-20. Desperate to get and keep the lead, they go for two but they don't succeed, so the score remains and the Cowboys are up by six. The Patriots get their revenge almost immediately when Jones' pass does complete to Bourne, who runs it 75 yards for a Patriots touchdown. Unlike the Cowboys, the Patriots are able to make the two-point conversion, putting them ahead 29-26. The Cowboys need to get the ball within field goal range to try to tie up the game, and they do. With 20 seconds left in the game, Zuerlein makes a 49-yard attempt, tying the game 29-29 and putting them into overtime.
OT
In overtime, the Patriots get the first possession but they are unable to convert and are forced to punt. The Cowboys don't even settle for a touchdown. After some close calls, they get themselves into field goal range, but there's no need. Prescott passes to Ceedee Lamb for a 35-yard touchdown to win the game 35-29 and put the Cowboys at 5-1.
Trevon Diggs has seven interceptions in six games - equals NFL record
If you have been keeping up with the Cowboys, you know the name Trevon Diggs has been the Cowboys' savior in several defining moments for the Cowboys.
His interception from tonight's game against the Patriots not only came at an important moment with 2:35 on the clock and Patriots in the lead, but it also equaled the record for most interceptions through week six, joining NFL Hall of Famer Rod Woodson.
The record for most interceptions in an NFL season is 14, held by Dick "Night Train" Lane, who achieved that feat in 1950 in his rookie year. Trevon Diggs could be on his way to breaking that record at this rate. He is already halfway there after game six, so if he keeps it up, he could be the next Night Train.
Breaking: Dak Prescott injured on game-winning play
There are reports that Dak Prescott suffered a strain to his right calf during the last play that won the Cowboys the game in overtime. He will undergo further investigation and possibly an MRI when he and the team get back to Dallas.

The Patriots and Cowboys role reversal
It has actually been several years since the Cowboys beat the Patriots. At that time, Troy Aikman was the quarterback and New England hadn't even won a championship yet. This was the pre-Brady era. The year was 1996, and the Cowboys were defending their Super Bowl title from the previous season.
Oh, how things have changed since then. The roles have basically reversed as the Cowboys haven't won a championship since and the Patriots have won six Super Bowls.
But this year, things are different. The Cowboys have the opportunity to stop that winning streak against a Patriots team without Tom Brady and which has only two wins this season. The Cowboys have scored an average of 34 points per game, and the Patriots have scored less than 25. The odds are in the Cowboys' favor tonight.
The Cowboys winning streak
The Dallas Cowboys have been on a long streak of wins. In fact, the only game they've lost was the season opener against the defending Super Bowl champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and that wasn't an easy win for the Bucs. The Cowboys held on and it ended in a close 31-29 loss. In conclusion, the Cowboys offense has been putting in the work this year. They ended last season 6-10 and struggled defensively and offensively, especially after losing QB Dak Prescott for the majority of the season. They are coming back strong this year though and are looking to maintain the streak.
The Cowboys offense is ranked second in scoring and yards per game right now. The Patriots defense has their work cut out for them tonight. When they played the Houston Texans last week, the defense struggled in the beginning, allowing Davis Mills to make it out of the pocket far too often. They'll need to be a lot more conscious and strict against the pass attack of the Dallas Cowboys.
Nick Foles likely to break record tonight
The Patriots have former Cowboys kicker Nick Folk on their team, and he has been clutch for them (and every team he’s played for). He comes into the game with 299 career field goals and it’s likely he’ll reach 300 tonight, which would make him the 35th player in the NFL and the fifth active kicker to reach that number. He is a make-or-break player that the Patriots are lucky to have on their side.
The Patriots come into the game with a 2-3 record while the Cowboys are on a four-game win streak at 4-1. The Patriots have the home advantage and Bill Belichick has a 5-0 record against the Dallas Cowboys.
On the other hand, the Cowboys have been looking unstoppable this season. They improved their defense in the offseason and Cowboys Trevon Diggs played with Patriots Mac Jones in college at Alabama, so he knows his moves well.
