Ferran Torres wears ‘Make Spain Great Again’ hat to celebrate historic World Cup victory

Spain hero Ferran Torres has written his name into World Cup folklore with his wining goal against Argentina. Torres’ extra-time strike earns Spain a second World Cup triumph and he celebrated alongside his teammates on Monday.

Less than 24 hours after being handed the World Cup trophy by President Donald Trump, Torres was seen wearing something a hat that looked a lot like the ‘Make America Great Again’ caps made famous by Trump. However Torres’ headwear had a subtle difference, reading: ‘Make Spain Great Again’ instead.

The Spain team flew back to Madrid after the victory in New Jersey on Sunday and embarked on a busy day of celebrations. First up, a meeting with King Felipe VI of Spain at Madrid’s Royal Palace.

“You are tired, but what a wonderful kind of tiredness. Congratulations,” King Felipe said. “There is still much to celebrate. Enjoy every kiss, every gesture of recognition, for you have earned them.”

Following that the team was taken on a city-wide open-top bus parade with hundreds of thousands of fans lining the streets of the capital. Up to one million supporters are expected to gather at the iconic Cibeles Square on Monday evening for the crescendo of the celebrations, as Spain players add a second star to the famous jersey.
