Cyle Larin is the third Canadian to score in Champions League

Cyle Larin scored in the 24th minute to give Besiktas a temporary equalizer against Sporting CP on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League. Unfortunately the Turkish side was unable to hold on to the draw and Sporting scored three more goals to obtain a 4-1 victory at the Vodafone Arena.

The 26-year-old has made two appearances in the tournament this season and eight across all competitions with Besiktas. He has scored a total of two goals and one assist so far this campaign and he has become a key player under manager Sergen Yalçin.

Larin made history in the UCL

The former Orlando City player became the third Canadian to score in the UEFA Champions League, behind Tomasz Radzinski and Atiba Hutchinson. The first player mentioned scored five goals in 2000 and the second one found the back of the net once in 2006.

Larin also became the seventh player that got his pro start with a Major League Soccer side and scored in the Champions League. With his performances so far this season he should receive a call up to the Canada national team next month after missing the last three games due to a thigh injury.
