The Reggae Boyz - who sit sixth in the table - have only participated in one World Cup in their history, the 1998 edition. With only six points from seven games, their chances of getting the ticket to the soccer tournament in Qatar next year are slim.
A victory over the Americans in Kingston would provide the hosts with a much-needed boost ahead of the remaining qualifiers next year.
Jamaica need to beat a confident USA squad
Meanwhile, the USMNT have already beaten Jamaica 2-0 in qualifying and their triumph over neighbors Mexico on Friday was important for morale and confidence ahead of the remaining qualifiers.
Gregg Berhalter’s men, who had a disappointing start to the qualification campaign, have now beaten the Mexican squad three times this calendar year, after success over El Tri in the finals of the CONCACAF Nations League and CONCACAF Gold Cup in the summer.
As previously mentioned, that victory lifted the Americans to first in the standings, tied on 14 points with the Mexicans, who sit second.
