Barcelona: Sergiño Dest ruled out of UCL game against Benfica
United States men’s national team defender Sergiño Dest has not recovered fully from a back injury and will be unavailable for the game against Benfica.
Sergiño Dest's future at FC Barcelona is up in the air and several reports have indicated that if the right offer is brought to the table the Camp Nou bosses are willing to let him go after a year and a half. Chelsea are reported to be interested in Dest and they could present an offer during the next transfer window.
Barcelona Injury report
Several teams are keeping an eye on the American defender, who was unable to play in Barcelona’s 1-0 win against Espanyol over the weekend in Xavi’s debut as manager because he has not recovered from a back injury. Dest has missed two consecutive league games so far but he could see some action this weekend.
Dest returned to training on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Benfica. On Tuesday Xavi talked about the possibility of the United States men’s international team defender playing against the Portuguese side and said that it will depend on how Monday’s training session goes.
The Barcelona manager also said that Ousmane Dembélé and Sergi Roberto are close to returning, but they are set to miss Tuesday's Champions League match. Barça will also be without Ansu Fati, Sergio Agüero, Martin Braithwaite and Pedri against Benfica.
