Los Angeles welcomes FIFA delegation in bid to host the 2026 World Cup
Los Angeles was the last city that the FIFA delegation inspected as potential venues for the 2026 World Cup to be co-hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico.
A delegation sent by FIFA visited several venues in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the three countries that will co-host the 2026 World Cup, for inspection as potential venues. The city of Los Angeles was the last one that they visited and a decision should be announced as soon as April.
Los Angeles welcomed the FIFA delegation
The committee led by FIFA and US Soccer visited the Rose Bowl stadium, Sofi stadium and Hollywood Park. They also visited several locations proposed for training sites, base camps for international teams and official fan fest.
“We are happy to have welcomed the FIFA delegation to Los Angeles this weekend,” said Chris Klein, LA Galaxy President. “During this visit, we had the opportunity to showcase Los Angeles’ resources and infrastructure as we believe the city will make a perfect location for the most celebrated tournament in the world. LA is the world’s city and we’re ready to bring the World Cup™ to Los Angeles in 2026.”
After the conclusion of the tour the committee inspected 22 cities and 23 venues that will be submitted to FIFA and only 16 will be chosen. Depending on the report submitted there could be more venues according to FIFA’s chief tournaments and events officer Colin Smith.
"When the bid was presented 16 was referenced and we've taken note but ultimately it is up to FIFA," said Smith. "We'll wrap up these visits and then we will decide the most appropriate number we need to host the tournament. We haven’t set the exact time yet but I suspect it will be more likely April than March.”
